I asked and it can be anything I like, I suggested helping out the FC improving trails for walkers/bikers and was told that was ok much to my surprise.
So next thing anyone know of where to find out about organised dig days in SE during the week. Do these exist?

Just have the day off but do a dig day on the weekend instead.

I did that. Spent a day 'bracken bashing' (aka, cheeky trail recce'ing and getting a suntan followed by an early finish to the pub) one August in Hardcastle Craggs nr Hebden.
Hardest days work I've ever done.
