Went for a stroll along tbe canal at lunchtime today, and there was a bat causing quite a stir among the pedestrians, zooming over heads and generally acting like a Red Bull stunt plane.

I've seen plenty at dusk or after dark, but never at noon. Is this fairly common?

It sounds like a very uncommon occurrence. I guess bats, like most creatures, can be woken during their period of sleep.

I woke some today whilst on a roof and one popped out from under the ridge and whirred around my head for a few minutes, praise the lord for male pattern baldness 🙂
First time I've seen one in the middle of the day.

The bat was by a footbridge and some trees, so I wondered if it had been disturbed from it's roost by passersby somehow.

No mamils were flying today 😉
