is that the mash?
Only 50% of the vote that didn't include all the same voters as last time that wasn't asking the same question and the main winner declared it wasn't about the indie question....
Still let it roll
Granted the Russians are probably the experts in this field, but I would have to wonder why "they" would go to the bother of rigging the referendum but neglect to also rig the election?
Or maybe the Comrade just doesn't quite understand the nuances of Scottish politics? SNP support does not directly equate Independence support.
Bollocks.
referendum was rigged, according to Russia's top elections official
Well, if you were going to ask anyone about dodgy elections....
More likely to believe the [ UK wide] election was rigged than the referendum
THE SNP landslide at the General Election is evidence that the 2014 independence referendum was rigged, according to Russia's top elections official.
Alternative title:
Russia's top election official fails to understand first-past-the-post system.
Mr Churov noted how the election results showed "the SNP, which fought for a Yes in the referendum, won far more votes now than it did then".
Which is clearly incorrect.
Yes votes September 2014: 1,617,989
SNP votes May 2015: 1,454,436
Or Russia just wants to wiggle the destabilisation needle it has inserted in the West by any means possible. See also their support of Argentina's claim on the Falklands (from more or less nowhere AFAIK).
Ha! That does sound like something out of the Daily Mash.
I know quite a few people personally that voted SNP at the general election but didn't vote yes in September.
They've proven themselves in the Scottish Parliament that they can behave sensibly and get on and do stuff. Their general election candidates were a broad and varied bunch, some talented and interesting ones mixed in and often above the "toun coonciler" types put up by the other parties. Not hard to understand why they were popular. I'm not an SNP voter/supporter btw.
Total votes in Scotland 7th May 2015
56 out of 59 seats but exactly 50% of the total vote. Assuming all SNP voters want independence and all others don't, that's not far off the referendum result. But I'm pretty sure it's more complex than that.
Of course it could just be that as the Russians don't really bother with letting their people decide who leads them they simply assume everyone else does the same.
Referendum - 45% Yes, 55% No
Election - 50% SNP, 50% Others
When you take into account that some people want to keep the union but like other things the SNP stand for, there is no contradiction.
If you're going to ask anyone about electoral honesty, then ask a Russian.
Didn't Putin get 127% of the vote at the last election?
Didn't Putin get 127% of the vote at the last election?
yes, but he claimed it was rigged, he'd ordered the election council to deliver 200%.
It doesn't matter what a few middle-aged cyclists in the UK think about what this guy is saying. What's more interesting is how it will be received in Russia and the Ukraine, where most people probably won't appreciate the nuances of Scottish politics, and will see it as "proof" that the west is just as corrupt as everyone else, and that democracy is pointless.
So, job done.
There isn't any contradiction between the 2 results... No shortage of SNP voters who voted No, or voters for other parties who voted Yes. I think a lot of the UK political commentators struggled with that though.
There probably was a little bit of mild fraud in the referendum on both sides, but drops in the bucket considering the size of the result. Which is really annoying, because it gives fuel to the 0.45% Who Are Total Arseholes.
But as above, doesn't seem like the article is really about any of this
When you take into account that some people want to keep the union but like other things the SNP stand for, there is no contradiction.
Exactly. And I know a few people who voted exactly that way which clearly proves it 😉
Why rig an election when you can comfortably get in when 63% of the people who can be bothered to vote vote against you?
Not a party political comment parties have been getting in on 45% of the vote for years but describing gaining 37% of the vote as a resounding victory doesn't sit well with me.
Sorry there is absolutely no ulterior motive here before Mr new coldwar Putin.
Insulting if picked up by the SNP too. There were a couple of instances where SNP supporters were rude/almost aggressive/bullying towards non-SNP supporters.
What's more interesting is how it will be received in Russia and the Ukraine, where most people probably won't [s]appreciate the nuances of Scottish politics,[/s] know who this Scotland guy is, but will respect him for managing to rig an election.
The Scottish GE results probably weren't rigged as one; the discrepancies required to disenfranchise the SNP would be obvious, given the recent referendum result; and two; the Tories - knowing the fix was already in elsewhere - didn't need to bother. Far better to have a northern bogey party to replace the wreckage of 'Labour'...
Shirley if you are going to call fix in anywhere in this election it would be why the polls where so skewed as to lure Labour into a false sense of their positioning? (I don't believe this btw, I have confidence in uk elections.) Seems a crack pot look at things, considering the SNP go more seat than they otherwise would have in a PR system.
then again, Russia today is usually good for a laugh, it's my favourite news channel! 😆
claims russian official
****ing lol
Bollocks.
+1
Time for action.... time for Jivehoneyjive...... he will know the truth...
were these observers from Smersh and just back from a day trip to Katyn?
I figured the experts would know a rigged vote when they saw one... 🙂
Mr Churov obviously hasn't realised they were votes for two different things. Or he's a troublemaking little shit. Let me guess.
