I mean there are enough people on here spending £1k on a road bike when they've clearly never ridden one before, probably aren't getting an efficient road position, and a £500 one would do fine.

£1500 actually 😳

In my defence, I did have a flat bar thingy for a year before. And I'd done about 50 miles on drops with a borrowed bike. Bike shop sorted out the position for me, although it ****ing hurt for a while, so many muscles you don't use on an MTB. I agree with you in that you can ride whatever you want, but it does annoy if a bike's not used for it's intended purpose. I sorted out a spesh epic for a mate a few years back, and he only uses it for commuting 🙄

I splashed out on my first road bike this year, £30 and a tenner for a set of pedals from a mate!

I have seen Russell Crowe in the pool at a hotel this year too, he also wears those dumb running shoes with springs in!

i really dont get this.. It always baffles me when i see someone smoking a cigarette at a bike race.

Its a bit like going on a hard bike ride, then getting back to the car and stuffing your face with a KFC... ( which i have done once or twice. 🙁 , but it is certainly not a habit)...

Do you look really stupid if you buy a Ferrari when you're not an F1 driver?

But if you only ever used that Ferrari to go shopping then that's a waste of a good car........

I quite like his bike irrespective of his fitness.

I think cycling can stop your lungs from getting too clogged up if you smoke (but not the chemicals from doing you harm), because I used to smoke and still cycled about all the time, and since i've quit my lungs don't feel as good as they used to before I started, but they don't feel really bad either, though I never smoked an awfull lot.

Tobacco companies are nearly as bad as arms traders imo, the main difference being that smokers mostly kill themselves instead of other people.

In my defence I started smoking in my teens and unfortunately gave into peer pressure, which I think can be almost subliminal when you're young, was a silly thing to do.

Vitamin C is supposed to be good for lungs for any smokers reading this, and it probably need's topping up anyway if you smoke.
