I didn't know there were so many Croatians around my way. Well judging from the cheers anyway.

Is it home yet?

I think the experience of the senior players counted in the end.

Rashford is sh*t. Not done a thing since he came on. Stirling may not have any goal instinct but at least he worries defenders. They were found out eventually. Not enough firepower up front. 4 years to find someone who can score goals. At least it saves the slaughter at the hands of Mbappe.

Good effort, hold your heads high you've done yourself very proud indeed.

Bugger.

Mind you, no recriminations, no regrets. Well done to the lads for getting that far and conducting themselves pretty well throughout.

Croatia were the better team, fair’s fair.

Decent effort all round, ultimately just lacking a bit, hard luck. Euro final at Wembley is now this teams goal.

we conceded to a rushed throw in and lost due to poor match management

Oooof, don't let binners here you dazh! That's the messiah you're dissing.

England really should have been 2 up.....and they really need to work out whether carrying Dele Alli is worth a goal every 4 or 5 games.

3rd place play off on Saturday now, I don't think anyone wants to be in that or watch that.

Yeah, I really cam't understand how he has got so much game time, Southgate has been far too loyal to him, but maybe thats part of why the team seams so together.

Croatia just matured and got better, England fizzled out.  Disappointing but not unexpected.

Yep....there's 6 more years in this team.  This was a stepping stone. A fabulous, 3 week stepping stone where we dared to believe (and then reproached ourselves for believing).

Well done England...so proud.

Poor choice to take sterling off. Delle should gave been subbed imho. But the overriding thing for me who's watched paid and followed England since 1990, my love might just be back. Well done fellas. Oh and just to back up my football knowledge, I had England and Croatia each way before the tournament so hopefully I'll cover my be bets at worse but maybe quids in and win. Sleep tight fellas!

that team won't win squat with hands in his pockets  southgate in charge, he might be good with the media but fails to spot a light weight middle field in panic mode when not even losing the match.

I've seen 3 major semis go the wrong way, this was the day for this tournament but this team will learn. This team will grow, we missed something at the end in terms of maturity and seeing a game out. Honestly fell apart after Henderson came off which tells you how much he was part of it. Well done Gareth and the boys Harry for golden boot

Mediocre ref and linesmen.

Kane miss probably cost the game.

Croatia got better as England lost confidence.

A fair result, I expect Croatia to lift the trophy (and Lee Dixon knows nothing about football).

Both ref and linesmen were shite but then we all expect that ...

Kane could have scored at least two more ...

Once Croatia apply rugby tackle they shake England up totally.

Yes, I hope Croatia win the World Cup.

I don't even listen to Lee Dixons ...

Croatia were still less physical than Columbia, they just had more class in the team, they dominated the midfield from the start of the second half and perhaps Southgate should have bought on Dier to work with Henderson to shore things up there.

Croatia has strong compact midfield from day one so very difficult to play them.

On the plus side I don't have to hear people telling me It's Coming Home, including members of the Royal Family.

Perhaps we could save that until the second immediately after England win a world cup.

Dele Ali has done very little in this world cup, he has looked bang average. I hate to say it but Rashford didnt really affect the game at all tonight. I think that England team needed a better passer in midfield, carrick in his day would have been ideal.

Oh well. Now the country can go back to it's natural state of grumpy mild depression.

Put the kettle on.

Lowest expectation I can remember of an England team, so should be happier, but<span style="font-size: 0.8rem;">I It actually seemed possible that it could 'come home'</span>

Glorifying 1966 always seemed pretty sad, it was over half a century ago.

Would have been great to actually have it in my lifetime.

My kids are 7 & 5 and they've been so excited, o just wish they could've had the memory of England getting the trophy.

Anyway too many beers for a school night

Can't understand these 3rd or 4th place ..play-offs

What's the point ?

Can anyone remember ( without looking it up ) who finished 3rd & 4th in Brazil last time out ?

I won't be watching or even that interested in hearing the result ..

More bike time now ..methinks

They should be proud of their own efforts and the team.  Evidently, Gareth is a world-class leader too.

I would be proud as hell to work in a group as loyal, dedicated and skilled as that.

Disagree klunk - at least Lingard makes good runs and stretches teams. Alli just strolls! Perhaps he's playing deeper than usual or he's carrying that injury from the first match, guess if that's the case he has to be honest about his fitness.

It’s enough for me that the England football team isn’t populated in the main by tossers, which appeared to be the case for the last 30 years or so.

As a lifelong horrible **** and scotsman I really want to take the piss but... that was awesome. I really hope England can manage to be proud of the team even though they "failed" because just look at the state of them at the end, they'd given everything and done better than dreamed and basically deserve to go home proud.

As well as the misfiring Stirling and ineffectual rashford, where was Kane? Totally anonymous since the group stages. Gary Neville reckoned he was was injured. Or maybe just overrated?
