Incredible talent.

Anyone with Disney+ can watch the amazing Summer of Soul documentary, to see the band in it's cultural context.

Disney+ also has Sly Lives, another doc by Questlove(?). It was on my list anyway, but now it's definitely one I need to watch

Lauren Laverne will be featuring him in 6 of the best later. So many modern artists have him as an influence. The challenge would be to find a genre that he didn't influence in some way.

He really was an incredible and incredibly innovative musician. His autobiography starts well but by about halfway through it's descending into the rants of a very drug-damaged person, it's a really sad read.

He was a fantastic talent.  With his age and health his death wasn’t unexpected.

Sly and the Family Stone made some excellent records that I play 30 years after I bought them.  They were thought to be old then - but it was less than 30 years after they were recorded!
