we want to have one of these snazzy photo slideshows on our website and as with most things, there are lots of ways to do it.

is Flickr or Photobucket the best thing to use? any issues with compatibility on iphones or any other platforms? I get the impression they might use flash

any other options? it would be nice to have no logos if possible

any advice appreciated! i'm not that experienced with web stuff, have just learnt a bit of HTML so far

For iPhone compatabilty you need Jquery - just do a google search for Jquery slideshow and I am sure you'll find something.

Here's one we did - it is a very simple slide transition but you can do lots more http://www.skimorzine.com/

sorry i fell asleep shortly after that post!

your website is very cool, but the jquery stuff looks a bit tricky! i'll do a bit of reading into it though

failing i'm thinking we'll just use flickr and sod the iphone users

Thanks 🙂

There may be an online service where you can upload images for a gallery and embed the code. If not I might have to make one... Hmmm

I use Flickr on my website gallery and it seems to work fine - well, no one's ever complained 🙂 Good to have some static pictures as well so that if whatever device you are on can't use flash then there is still something to see. The nice thing is that I find the flickr upload easy to use, and as long as you put any new photos in the same set as your gallery draws from they will automatically appear there.

Sam - the point being with Jquery you don't have device compatibility issues...

I've got a wordpress theme that does that - www.glengarr.co.uk

I'm sure there are about 7 million wordpress slide show plugins

Edit: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/tags/slideshow

I *think* this might do it as a hosted solution... http://flickrslideshowembed.com/jquery-flickr-gallery-tags.html

i have been working my way through a simple jquery tutorial. so far so good.

(warning: nauseating harley davidson content)
http://line25.com/tutorials/build-a-simple-image-slideshow-with-jquery-cycle

flickr does indeed sound like the most straightforward option with easy uploading etc. i'll check out that other link, thanks m_f

geoff - your website is nice. makes me think i should stop fannying about trying to learn html and just use wordpress!

Using Flickr for the content doesn't force you to use Flash for the slideshow.

I did mine all in HTML (mostly copied from published code). I still need to pretty it all up but the content is here: Interactive exhibit design gallery. Works on all formats including smart phones as far as I have tested.

STW uses AnythingSlider or at least, they have a "<div class="anythingSlider"> in their page source. I use the same code on my page - it was quite a pain to get just how I want it, but I got there in the end.
