so is the new M really a bad guy?

and does/is he the M that is seen is the earlier (later!) Bond films?

It's about resurrection innit. Past, present, future. Renewal. Weirdly for a bond film it's really quite symbolic!

Edit
If you like it's about resetting things, or as so philosophically stated in the Lion King - it's the circle of life.

I liked the way the fighting scenes were shot but didn't really understand or enjoy much else.

What happened to the disk with all the MI6 agents names on it? That was the mission wasn't it?

Bond movies are now waaay too pretentious. Wish they'd get back to simple storyline, decent action filmed so you see it and some schoolboy innuendo.

Can't be arsed with the last 4 or 5.

skyfall is the best bond film so far, and Mr Craig is the best bond, imho that is.

It is brilliant. It's between Craig, Connery and Dalton though for best bond for me.

Dalton

Living Daylights is great (maybe even the best Bond) but Licence to Kill is drivel.

Skyfall was utter crap. It screamed of "we came close to canning this so finish it cheaply".

The series of crucial coincidences needed for the baddies plan to work was comic even by Roger Moore's standards.

Not to mention taking the Aston as "company cars have trackers". Well, the DB5 was his company car and it did have a tracker.

Decision time for the studio, are they going for "serious" cinema? If so get a decent script editor with a shovel to fill in the gaping plot holes. If it's not going to be serious then they can cheer the miserable bugger up a bit.

The last Bourne was better IMO

Oh, and I know the books name checked items but the product placement was clumsier than QVC.

Johnny storm - the db5 was a company car before. In Craig era bond he actually won it in a card game.

A James bond film wouldn't be a James bond film without massive plot holes.

There's a number you can call to report those.

You can guess the first three digits...

In the books, and the Connery films, Bond had a sadistic dark side. M was aware of this and it was suggested in the books that he had an element of that during his days as an agent which is why Bond was rehabilitated following his attempt to kill M, rather than just disposed of. New M is probably closer to book M than any M so far, apart from being a bit on the young side to be a former agent with the field experience he's supposed to have.

Ah, that's clever - so it's basically Archer?

It confused the hell out of me how they could take such great elements and turn it into such an awful film. As above, even Quantum of Solace (which was a confusing mess) was a better film.

I thought that worked, up until it had machine guns fitted. Either that was a Q-thing or Bond had MACHINE GUNS FITTED TO HIS OWN ACTUAL CAR.

There is some real silliness in the middle but still, Craig Best Bond, and Skyfall second best Bond film. But then I lack rose tinted specs, most bonds and most bond films are crap.

I thought new M was portrayed well- through most of the film you see him basically through old M's eyes, and she sees him as the enemy- but actually it's just differences of approach, they're on the same side wanting the same thing.

This might be the most ridiculous thing I've ever read on STW!

No mention of Casino Royale? Thought that was the best of the Craig Bond films. Skyfall was only a bit better than Solace.

Too right - QOS was utter, utter tripe, with just about the worst film title I've ever encountered. Skyfall was at least watchable tripe. And Voldemort will make a good M.

Having said that, I actually sat through most of Superman III with the kids yesterday and it makes QOS look like Lawrence of Arabia.

You were ok with the ejector seat (that M already knew about) though?

😉

I like QOS and the car chase at the start is one of the best, Olga Kurylenko makes me have inappropriate thoughts.

Skyfall - so the baddie can get into super secret secure M's office without anyone knowing and plant a bomb that can be operated remotely, yet spends the rest of the film still trying to kill her in person with a little gun in a court room. errrrrr right.

Random trivia about Skyfall - the scenes in Scotland were filmed around Glen Etive, close to Dalness Estate, which was previously owned by the Fleming family.

Hence, Bond returning to his "roots".

Not a fan of Skyfall myself. I think it is the worst of the Craig Bond films. My view is films like this always go a bit tits up when they try to be clever and reinvent themselves to much. Bond films should be distinctly different than the Bourne style films as Bond is meant to have MI6 and all its gadgets behind him, not some rouge agent running around Europe as that Bourne style.

quite liked casino, didn't like shoelace, thought skyfall was a fair effort.

agree with 'dont remake the bourne films' - we already have the bourne films.

TBH I think Bond might have peaked at Goldfinger.

Bond peaked with Goldeneye. Skyfall had its moments but it was poor compared to previous efforts.

Was better than Die Another Day.

There wasn't a bomb.

You haven't watched have you?
