Thinking of going back to Sky as there are cheapish deals going. Can anyone point me to a list of channels that I will get on the "original " package? Sky bloody well can't or won't tell me. Do I get Eurosport and the bunch of discovery channels?

You need the "family bundle" for those at £36/mth.

Went to their guy in the White Rose Centre last June, told him what I wanted and after a lot of haggling and a few phone calls I get the full package (Family, Entertainment, Sport, Movies etc) unlimited broadband and their evening/weekend phone package for £44 a month, he offered me it all for £39 but I added HD for a fiver. You've just got to be a bit cheeky and be prepared to keep saying no until you get what you want 🙂

We found Netflix and amazon prime to be far more watchable and way cheaper. Just sayin.

you'd be wanting eurosport player for that - about 4 quid per month

Netflix and Amazon have a habit of removing things just as you're watching a series, unless you watch them quick enough.

Amazon Prime's old films are really poor picture quality too. Some are clearly VHS transfers! Their new stuff is actually quite good in HD if you've got a good broadband connection, but archive stuff is a mixed bag and they only carry what they have a deal with the studios for.

I have Player at 4 quid but its not immune from playing up. The thought of 10 quid for Sky was valid as it would allow me to spend an extra 6 quid to get what I had a few years ago and watch discovery channels. There is sod all else worth watching. Ta chaps . Burger it.

Problem with Netflix is you have to subscribe to find out what's on offer and it's subscribe or nothing. Amazon you can buy/rent individual titles outside of subscription. The Prime subscription gets you a selection of the stuff for free, but I'm not convinced it's good value any more. Though you do get the free postage which is what I really signed up for anyway but then the price is much higher now to include the Prime video streaming.

I'm curious about Sky's thing though where you can buy on demand titles and they send you the DVD in the post also (and Blu Ray?).

There's also Now TV which is Sky's service online service and don't need a Sky subscription for it. Though it is a monthly fee.
