Am thinking of changing my phone and internet provision from BT to Sky. Thoughts & experiences from anyone already using Sky internet & phone would be much appreciated.
I'd also appreciate your thoughts on Sky's IT support (if they provide it).

Ta

I used Sky broadband (their 16Mb LLU line specifically) for a year and it was brilliant. Really fast, no issues with download limits and always there and working. I never had to deal with their tech support so can't comment on that, but the connection itself was ace and I'd have them again in an instant if I had the option.

You could use www.speedtest.net to see what ISP is fastest for your area and how each ISPs customers rate that servive.

Sky buy broadband from BT and generally any non billing or home router related problem gets passed to BT Wholesale to be fixed. I wouldnt say Sky's IT support is the best 🙁

If you've got an O2 mobile then their broadband is really good value imo. It's also known as Be Un Limited for non O2 customers.

As an example here are the results for Edinburgh here:[img] [/img]

Pretty good, but be careful of internet bundle packages as we went over our monthly useage and are now paying £10 extra!

depends where you are. We're in the Sussex countryside and limited to their 'Connect' service. Please, if you want functional broadband, don't bother with Sky Connect. Aside from their throttling of ssh etc their contention was so bad that after 5pm the broadband was effectively useless - iplayer, channel4od etc all unwatchable.

moved to namesco. More expensive but 500000% better.

Been with sky for tele' and broadband and 'phone for about 3 years with hardly any issues at all.

Busy periods it has failed or gone a bit slow but generally, it's been excellent.

Talk Talk were crap, really really crap and so crap I just used dial up instead of broadband. Wannado were rubbish too.

I changed from BT to Sky last month - £15 a month cheaper, better call package, unlimited interweb. Had a few problems with connections at first but tech support were helpful and easy to get hold of ( it turned out to be a case of the router needing moving slightly). I am happy with the change.

IIRC Sky Broadband comes through the phone line, so your distance from the local exchange can make a huge difference.

We were on Tiscali via BT landline at 0.5MB. We're at most 3 miles from the exchange. When we asked about upgrading, Tiscali were surprisingly honest and told us the best we'd ever get (with the current network anyway) would be 1MB.

We're on cable now - Virgin 10MB. No problems to speak of - yet...

John drummer is bang on, my sky connection is poor, and as previous posters said they rent the equipment in the exchanges from BT, who give priority to their customers. I'm down to less than 1mb on most evenings between 5 and 10pm, won't even stream spotify at these times! The I T support has been good and very frank in explaining these problems to me! My only option is to change to BT (more expensive) or go onto Orange who have their own equipment in my exchange! IMO look elsewhere if you want to use your connection for anything other than browsing pages! Vimeo will never stream before 10pm

mine has been good for the last couple of years - buts its started dropping down to virtually nothing during busy periods in the evenings which can be annoying.

I'm moving soon though, so will put up with it till then - when I might give Virgin a go if its available (or maybe 02)
