Looking at getting next year's trip booked and a chalet has been found between Peisey-Nancroix and Le Villaret. I'm concerned that it's too low down the mountain and in all but a very good snow year it'll be a bit of a PITA.

Anyone stayed there, any experience to share?

stayed in peisey-nancroix with the trailaddiction lot last summer. If your chalet is near the yoghurt pots lift (in the center of peisey-nancroix), then you'll be alright - that takes you straight up to the les arcs side of the vanoise express cablecar (that crosses to la plagne).

Granted, you are tucked right over the side of les arcs, but if the price is right, I wouldn't let that put you off.

Skied in Peisey Vallandry several times - Club Med - so some observations. Peissay area is a good place to stay in that you have the easy choice between Les Arcs or La Plagne. Also great in bad weather, heavy snow as lots of off piste fun in the trees when the hgiher stuff becomes OOB. Plus, there is some deal on lift passes that if runs linking the cable car are shut then they discount the prices - so guess what, they maintain those runs when everything else is going green ! (Two Easters ago!). That said, staying in Villaret and Nancroix more so definitely involves compromise. There is a little bucket lift up from Villaret to the main lifts but I imagine that Nancorix involves using the bus. No great hardship but still an inconvenience. All of these villages are quiet, so dont expect wild nightlife and you may not be able to ski to the door. In fact, this is very unlikely. If you are late season, I wouldn't recommend going below Vallandry altitude wise.

Plus lovely off piste run from back of Aig Rousse all the way down to near Nancroix.

X post here - but worth checking about the yog pots lift. My memory tells me they come up from Villaret not Nancroix.

Cheers chaps. The chalet blurb says that it's 150m from the lift, which I assume is the yoghurt pots of which you speak.

We'd be going second week of Jan.

I take it there are still bars and stuff in the villages?

We've stayed in Nancroix a few times, getting to and from the slopes is no problem, as others have said the yoghurt pots run from the center of the village up. Nightlife in the village is limited, there are a couple of bars, depends on what you are after. The yoghurt pots stop running in the evening, so you would need to use the bus service to get up to/down from Vallandry, I think it is free (I don't remember paying).

You can walk down from Vallandry, which is an entertaining experience after a night out with only the light from a mobile phone to guide you.

Forgot to mention, all the times we have been we have been able to ski down to the Vanoise, then it's just jump in a lift, down a flight of steps and onto the yoghurt pots.

One year we even managed to ski all the way down to Nancroix...I dont think that is possible very often though, so dont get your hopes up.

If you're not fixed on Nancroix or self-catering, we've been here several times and highly recommend it. Just down the valley with quick access to Les Arcs from the Villaroger side.

I FULLY recommend Bluebird Days in Nancroix. No nightlife/bars, but Jane runs an excellent chalet with top level service.
