'Funny' incident driving to work this morning. 🙄

I pull away off the drive, onto the residential, 30mph limit road that I live on. Within 10 seconds, I'm doing between 25 and 30, a car comes up pretty quickly behind me (45mph - ish). As I clock it in my rear view mirror I notice the driver looks p**sed off, already a bit animated, gesturing at something.

Almost as soon as he's up behind me I have to slow down because of road works blocking our side of the road and an oncoming car. Again, this seems to annoy him. Slow down to walking pace while the oncoming car passes us. I pull out around the barriers and carry on. Again, he looks angry, gesticulating at *something* but I can't tell what. He might be having an argument with his passenger or he might be angry with me, or shouting at the radio, I can't tell.

Carry on for another few hundred yards, I'm doing 30, he's right up my chuff until we reach the T junction to join a main road. I indicate well in advance, slow down gently, no trying to get him to rear end me (oo er).

Pull away and there's a (2-300 yard long) queue of stationary traffic up ahead, so I accelerate up to 25ish, after 100 yards it's time to brake so I show my brake lights without actually slowing down for a couple of seconds, then start to brake. He's now so engrossed in the gesticulating that he's turned his head 90 degrees and is looking straight at his passenger, so when he turns to face the road he's got to brake sharply to avoid me. Now there's a "whaddaya playin' at" gesture that's aimed at me. But I ignore it.

As the car in front of me pulls away Mr Happy behind me floors it, veers onto the other side of the road and cuts in front of me. I saw him doing this in my mirrors so moved left to give him more space and braked to allow him back onto the left hand side of the road more quickly.

Again, I do nothing, just leave a nice big gap so I've got room to move if I need it. Traffic stops again and the driver's door opens. I lock my doors! 😯 The guy comes storming back towards me making the "watching you" gesture: [img] [/img] while shouting "What? What? What the **** are you looking at?"

Again, I ignore it, while thinking "I'm looking at the road ahead, numbnuts, what do you thing I'm looking at".

He gets back in the car. I grab my phone and get a photo of the car/number plate.

He rolls forward a bit then gets back out of the car. Comes towards me again, tries to open my car door, when he can't he smacks his hand on window (I video'd this bit on my phone). He gets back in his car, puts it in reverse, floors it towards me, stops short and then goes forward as the traffic moves off. Except he didn't really commit to picking a lane at the junction, I had to bluff and make him think that I was going one way and then make a last second lane change.

Pull over in the nearest car park to phone the police and while I'm on the phone to them he comes into the car park, drives past me and then goes straight back out again. I can only think that he'd doubled back around to look for me! 😯

So, WTactualF!? Was he just 'making progress', should I have pulled over to let him run over a child's face at 45mph or is he an unhinged mentalist who probably knows where I live?

Hunt or hump? 😆

It could be repressed sexual chemistry. I don't think suggesting that to him would have defused the situation though!

Och I've had similar things just walking along the road. I've no doubt that nutcases multiply the nutter effect several times over once in a car. "Oi! What you looking at bellend, eh?!", kind of a thing.

I got shouted at for being in the way on a posh downhill street full of houses.

Thing is, a previous quick glance at the Garmin and I was at 28mpg on the crest of the downhill, I'm pretty sure that down the hill I was doing over 30 myself.

Mind you, I was on a bike.

I think the law allows you to run people like that down, then reverse back over them just to make sure your point has been made.

I might be wrong though, I'm not a lawyer, or a doctor.

How on earth does it sound like that? Is driving at the speed limit now considered a wind-up? Crikey!

Road rage isn't rational. He was angry when he got out of bed and you just happened to be in front of him.
I've taken to pulling over when getting tailgated these days and letting them get in front... then I'm no longer the target of their issues... it seems to work ok

Feels like that in London. Do 30 and you'll get tailgated everywhere.

I had two idiots road rage recently. They had stopped dead on a 40mph dual carriageway to wait for me.

In all honesty this.

I'd still report to the fuzz, this doesn't sound like a guy we want on the roads.

This guy just sounds angry/unhinged. Reminds of this geezer I used to be friends with.

One incident of many involved driving around the Daventry ring road, pedestrian stood at the side of the road watching our car. I assumed so he chose an appropriate moment to cross the road. The aforementioned geezer jumps forward in his seat and pointing and shouting as loudly as he could "what you f****** looking at"

There was a whole bunch of other incidents, many when driving. In time increasingly racist. Some folk are just angry, it doesn't take a good reason for that anger to be set off.

And you didn't overtake one person during this event? 😀

Seriously, it sounds to me like you just came across a lunatic on a bad day. Report it. Such lunatics tend to have a lot of bad days.

Overtook me on the motorway just before it converts into dual carriageway, then pulled in front of me way too close. A mistake? Or maybe showing me who is boss- Why say this? Maybe a perceived slight further back that I didnt see/click?! Anyway I tut, indicate and go to overtake as his speed had dropped. He then floored it when I pulled parallel. The passenger made a cut-throat gesture at this point and again when I filtered off to an overhead roundabout looking across at them (I did this to avoid/the situation). Lights, round the roundabout and down the parrallel sliproad onto the contined dual carriageway again. Thats when I saw tge car stopped and waiting for me. Blocking one lane.
I wasnt going to let this continue so I immediately pulled into the layby ahead hopped out and was at the passenger door.

Not a punch was thrown/all diffused without violence but I gave bloody had a right ear-bending about the driving to both of them.

Dont forget roadrage isnt always psychos etc. Perfectly normal people in metal boxes can go mental/over the top/or just plain arrogant/cocky until soneone challenges the 'bully'?

Some people are nutters. I hate incidents like this because I always blame myself and feel like I should have done something different, but the fact is it's not you, it's them being loonies. It can really ruin your day!

One day on STW, the thread will end:

"I got out and punched the *****".

Until then, it's clear.

Tiny penis, fat wife.

Sounds like you dared to get in his way. Probably running late probably his own fault. Then you went at the speed limit which wont help him make up time. So obvious it's your fault not sure how you missed that

If you know the person is agitated or having road rage just let him pass to avoid further aggravation. I hate being tailgated so normally I would just let other drivers pass me after all there are so many speed cameras, traffic lights and roundabouts. There is hardly space for speeding to be frank. Besides, life and insurance is expensive here so not wise to wind the other driver up.

It's not gun crime if they deserve it! Shame you didn't have a shotgun to calm him down, if he'd have got even angrier you'd just have been doing the world a favour!

Let idiots like this pass and then you can watch the fun as they get caught behind the next poor sod up the road.

It might sound harsh but the next poor sod up the road could be a 6'7" hod carrier. Now you can encourage the idiot to have a go at him.

Yeah, got video of him trying the door and smacking the window. And when we joined the main road there was a bus immediately behind us so hopefully that will have forward facing CCTV.

I had someone gesticulating, tailgating and shouting at me yesterday for getting in his way and not going faster. He was almost frothing. I was doing an indicated 52-54mph in a 50mph average speed camera zone on the M1, the same as all the other traffic. Sometimes people are just burning with anger.

I was riding in this morning when a car overtook me, then immediately indicated left and pulled across me to stop. I passed the car as a woman got out and started shouting at her kids.

Near the end of the road, there’s a traffic calming measure (the road is narrowed so only one car can pass) with utterly, utterly useless cycle lanes aimed at bypassing it. I say useless because they’re a) far too narrow, b) normally covered in glass, c) have cars blocking the entrance and/or exit, or d) have a white van parked on the pavement next to it, with its wing mirror overhanging the lane .

Today it was a bit glassy, so I avoided the bike lane and rode through. Mother of the year had suddenly caught up (by doing more than the 30mph limit I imagine....) and beeped her horn in sheer disgust that I hadn’t used the cycle lane, delaying her by 2 seconds! Her face was like thunder, as she puffed away on a cigarette in her enclosed metal box with her two young children.

Hag.

Witnessed some road rage at traffic lights in Edinburgh recently - Young guy in Honda Civic being tooted and furiously gesticulated at by fat older man behind in Kia Faux by Faux... young guy makes wiggly pinkie motion at Kia Driver the international sign for "Prawn Cock"; which made me actually laugh out loud. Guy in Kia went quiet.

OP - sounds like you came across a Bellend, unfortuantely some of them can afford cars too!

Spoke to the police this evening. Officer suggested he went round for a quiet chat as these things are often "heat of the moment" rather than because the perpetrator is some master criminal.

The officer went round to the address of the registered keeper, a woman, and asked who had been driving. She refused to say, so he asked her to just pass on the message to calm down and she refused again. At some point during their chat the bloke I ran into comes down from his hiding place upstairs and is pretty aggressive towards the police, saying that they shouldn't be talking to his missus, shouldn't have come round to his house etc. He also says I was deliberately getting in their way, was flicking the Vs at them, was driving really slow to hold them up and asking for a fight but then bottled it!

Plod finishes the chat and gets back to the station to finds that the bloke has phoned up and made a complaint against the officer for coming round to his house!

Give the thug's behaviour towards the police I think it's safe to say the guy is a grade a cretin and bails is in the clear.
Plus I think he's inadvertently volunteered to have his car randomly pulled over for spot checks for the next year.
