These people provide us with essential services that underpin our society, we need the very best people doing this and we need to reward them properly, not just pensions but also in general terms and conditions.
I work in the private sector.
Yes.
I am altering the deal. Pray I don't alter it any further.
You can't do that with peoples lives. Also the whole divide and rule thing is very distateful, pitting public workers against private with the eager backing of the bastard media.

Future generations will suffer. We're living longer so these pensions are too generous now. Anything other than money purchase is just wrong these days.
No
FS schemes are no longer appropriate due to rising ages of mortality, they will financially cripple the state if changes are not made now.

I can't speak on behalf of all my colleagues, but i'd like to express my thanks for the support shown towards the strikers in this thread/on this board. It is appreciated.
Yes.
It's not a pensions contribution, it's a tax increase.

But i have chosen to work today as the only person being inconvenienced by me having the day off would have been me.
Everyone in our department is in work today (FE College).

- Whether or not a change needs to be made, it's political opportunism to go for these pensions under the guise of sorting the deficit in the short term and the spin and the braying bullshit coming out of Westminster needs to be rebuffed

It's a ponzi scheme fuelled by the idea of constant growth, unsustainable. Definitely support their right to strike though and if I was in the public sector I'd be right out there (or more probably on my bike/in bed/in the pub) with them. I'd still know though that the current contract is pie in the sky.

Ignore the "public vs private" smoke screen that the government/media are putting up, we all need to be striking. The people that caused the mess are carrying on as they were in the city.

I'm a teacher and was out today. Our place was "open", but all lessons were cancelled... We had a demo at work first thing, a demo outside the TPA offices (which are in the same town) and a bunch of us went through to Middlesbrough to the rally/march there.
