What happens to the picture when you plug a HD freeview set-top box into a normal old-style CRT TV?
Presumably this will be via a SCART connection and will the picture "downscale" to show HD channels on the CRT TV?

Yep - SCART can't carry HD so the scart output from the box will already be scaled down.

Yeah - of course SCART will show the broadcast, just not in HD.
I use it a lot to record from my SKY+HD to my HDD recorder.
