Two years ago we bought our first dish washer. The soap compartment recently stopped working now the rinse aid doesn't dispense, surely they should last longer than two years. We don't use it that much either :0(

I also try to take care of it. I clean the filters regularly and keep it clean. Perhaps I should treat it mean.

our hotpoint aquarius dishwasher that we got second hand 5 years ago (it came included in a house purchase) is still going strong despite daily usage.

no idea how old it is, it looked pretty tatty in 2006.

you're not stacking it in such a way that the dispenser is blocked are you?

No John, I/we load it pretty carefully to make sure everything washes well. I did check that nothing was stopping the flap from opening. Apparently others have just lobbed the tablet into the cutlery rack when the flappy door thingy fails.
😕

aye, that'll do it. we use Fairy Platinum tabs, with rinse aid included, so you don't even need any of that stuff (or its door to work)

Do you live in a hard water area, and do you run descaler through it at intervals?

Yes we do live in a hard water area Hertfordshire, no to the de scaler question. I figured the salt was softening the water?

Cheers John

We may resort to that. I can't escape the belief that if something is broken I may be able to change out the part and hay presto all is well.

Am I deluded, I am arnt I. 🙁

There are dishwasher spareparts sites on the interweb if you look. and they are not that complicated to fix unless its electronics which is unlikely.

Have you tried using the highest temperature programme? Or the Finish dishwasher cleaner that you place in a rack with nothing else in the machine?

I've had a slimline Hotpoint Aquarius for 11 years, and its never broke down. Used at least twice a week. The top shelf sags though, I've got to wedge it up with something or the door won't shut.
I've bought spares for washing machines etc from here:

Tablet & rinse aid compartment are usually controlled by a single solenoid. Likely that that has failed. It's replaceable as a whole unit. Our Bosch dishwasher seems to need a new one every couple of years, must be a bad design I guess.

I'm not surprised it's lasted 11 years - ours get used twice per day without fail. We generally get 5 years out of one then it dies.

Just gone from whirlpool to AEG, and what a difference! Quiter, better wash, better economy.

I have just asked the other half and she informs me we have a Bosch it has lasted for 11 years so far and is used twice a day. It has broken down twice but she has fixed it by cleaning out the filter both times.
