I love horses. No idea why really never had much to do with them. I feel compelled to stop and talk to them when out riding even if the buggers never answer back.

Topsy and Tim... I was 2 years old and desperate for a pet when my dad came home with these two - not quite what I was hoping for ๐Ÿ˜• , but 40 years later they are still going strong.

I though this thread had died after it dropped off the front page with no replies ๐Ÿ™‚

Nice to see some pics appearing. (I am the horse owner and transporter, my wife is the one doing all the riding!)

Tinsy, surely that's not a pet so much as a rescue/ temporary foster pet?

looking at some of these I can't help but think if you're not going to eat them, set them free

Last time I checked, the shops sell chicken, and not hen. Unless you're referring to the guinea pig?

a chicken may be either a hen [ female] or a cockerel

I dont know what gender a "chicken " is when you eat but I would assume both.

a chicken may be either a hen [ female] or a cock rooster*

"hen" is an adult female that lays eggs - young females are pullets. Eating chickens are generally slaughtered at 6 weeks old, which is way before they would start laying eggs. So they're not hens.

I stand corrected then
Does a young male have a name?

Here's one of our three, when we got her we thought she was going to laying eggs for us - as she's grown we are mistaken!

Sexing young (and in some cases old) chickens is a bit of a black art.

We're now trying to work out how annoying he is to the neighbours as he's turning out to be a bit noisy at 6 in the morning ๐Ÿ˜†

Who mentioned chicken from shops?

Q. if I kill your Hen and eat it with chips would the meal be called Chicken or Hen and chips?

It would be called Henrietta and chips.

What came first, the chicken or the egg?

Of all the tarantula's and snakes I have, my Green Tree Python is my favourite as it's the one animal I wanted for many many many years but never thought I'd own. Truly stunning to look at and it's just shed and is now much "greener" in colour than this picture too

This is the Fat Lad.

Not exactly a pet, but without a doubt a member of the family.
