So my sister had a baby girl on Sunday but still hasn't given her a name. Today we bought a girl cat and have already chosen her a name. Should I text my family including my sister that we've got a cat and this is her name? Or should I text my sister and check we're not about to pick a name they might have had?

I'm tempted to do the first one as it's annoyed me that they haven't named their daughter when they've known they're having a girl for 5 months.

Are the odds of choosing the same name pretty high, then?

What's she going to call her, Tabbytha?

Doubt she'll call it Pussy either.

Is Mrs Snaggletooth a likely name for a small child?

Let me guess, your sister is younger than you and you don't have kids?

either that's mod led smut, talking about dribbling pussies, or Drac has got dribble and drivel mixed up.

It's genuinely not that easy.

Your cat - call it what you want.

What are you going to call the cat?

It's genuinely not that easy.
Really? With 5 months notice? Surely one parent just says,
I like the names Jocinda Raspberrybush' and the other parent goes, 'Yeah, that's fine. We'll call it that then'

Call the cat Louise and tell everyone. You will have done your niece a massive favour by scratching that one off the list of possibles...

...in 6 months you will have everyones blessing to shoot the cat.

It's unlikely that your sister will name her child Sudocrem, so I think you'll be fine.

Is this a genuine question because it seems a bit mad? The chances of you calling the cat the same thing as your niece have to be pretty slim. Call the cat Snarf or Cheetara.

And you could always change the cat name.

'Given that (sisters name) seems unable to think of any girls names in light of recent events, I present (cats name) [picture of cat]'

What's the cats name?

If by some miracle you have picked the same name, your cat becomes 'The Feline Formerly Known As....'

I think I read on a here once that when naming pets you should always bear in mind that when the vet calls you in, they use the name of the pet

So go for 'Dracula's Bride, Princess of Darkness'

Or a sister with a nameless child.

Frankly, you'd be better leaving this for people with something meaningful to contribute.

Here's a picture to illustrate my point:

Oddest thread ever.

If I gave you 50 attempts I reckon you would struggle to guess the new sprog's name. And most of them would make rubbish names for a cat. Apart from Louise, obvs.

just name the cat and be done with it

why do you have to present your cat to your family anyway? just tell people what the cat's name is when they are round your house

I've asked my sister if the name we want to give the cat is on her short list and it is so for all those who thought it impossible to pick the same name 😛

PS if it was a boy cat it was always going to be called Sue. Big Johnny Cash fan here

I called my cat Megatron. Do the same and you're unlikely to have a problem.

Also makes me giggle every time i take her to the vet.

Pick a different name for your cat then. I can recommend Wilikins, which is our cat's name. Causes amusement at the vets and mr pea can't bring himself to shout it when he's calling her in at night 😀

"Seven" as a Baby's Name

I used to know a lad whose middle name was Seven. His mother's reasoning was that one day we'd all be numbers.

My wife is called Louise.

As is mine.

It should be safe enough to call the cat Theresa by now or Dianne (in the Dead ringers voice of Andrew Neil)

Both should be called Theresa or May surely? Soon every new born will have to be by order anyway

My niece was asked to think of a name for their new cat.

'Susan'

'But what if it's a boy cat?'

[Slight pause]

'Boy Susan!'

In light of that, think of a name for a boy cat, then add a 'girl' prefix. Sorted.

Edit: or 'chairman miaow', cos I wasn't allowed to call our cat that 🙁
