Striped shirt with a striped or patented tie, acceptable ?
striped shirt + plain tie = ok
striped shirt + dots tie = ok
striped shirt + striped tie = wrong
Striped tie = Acceptable, unless it's trying to look like a club tie.
Otherwise, I would agree with this;
striped shirt + plain tie = ok
striped shirt + dots tie = ok
striped shirt + striped tie = wrong
(Today's sartorial showing is a plain white shirt with a rather dashing Liberty print tie!)
striped shirt + plain tie = ok
striped shirt + dots tie = [s]ok[/s] wrong
striped shirt + striped tie = wrong
FTFY
For me, plain (ideally white) shirt is the way to go, with a plain, striped or spotted tie
I'm very interested in the OP's patented tie... what's so special about it?
This was my understanding:
striped shirt + plain tie = ok
striped shirt + dots tie = wrong
striped shirt + striped tie = wrong
Plain Shirt + pattern tie = ok
However these longstanding rules of engagement seem to have been thrown out of the window of late.
PS: F*ing i-pad spell checking thing how do you get from patterned to patented.
Easy. One item can be patterned, the other may not.
And by patterned, I mean non-plain
