Seeing as postie has decided not to deliver my new Merkur ('cos it wouldn't fit through the letterbox and didn't leave it even though we live 1 mile from anybody ๐Ÿ‘ฟ ) I now have to wait until Monday to play slice 'n dice with my face ๐Ÿ™

So I was just going to continue using gel, but there's a lot written about how much better a shave is with proper soap/cream and a brush and it's got me wondering if it really is better, if so is a badger brush really that much better than cheaper brushes, which is better - soap or cream?

Feel free to recommend any brushes, soaps, etc.

Taylors of old bond street avocado shaving cream is very good with a decent bristle shaving brush and some feathers blades you can't go wrong.

All you're doing is softening your beard to make it easier to cut. A brush is better at that than your fingers, soap/saving cream/gel is better than water, and hot-ish water is better than cold water.

Brush on 'stuff' of choice
Shave off, going with the beard in one pass only with razor (it doesn't matter which) of choice. You're aiming to look like you've shaved, not baby smooth skin (you're not, after all, a baby, right?)
Using a clean towel wipe of left over 'stuff', don't rinse in dirty water.
Brush your teeth (to let face calm down a bit)
Use a good quality moisturizer
don't splash aftershave on, (if you must smell like a handbag, wipe a smear on the back of your neck, where it will last longer, and won't irritate your face.)

Did none of your father's tell you any of this stuff?

Or just wack on some cheap shaving foam and scrape it with a Kingrazor. Works for me.

I've used the same Boots shave brush for the last 30 years. I replace the Boos shave bowl when empty, usually lasts 1 year.

This may sound a bit stupid but surly once you have got the hair cut off level with the skin how can you get it any smoother .

next question has anyone tried the chemical Imac type ladies dehairing stuff on the beard,

and why the **** does male pattern baldness not start under the chin and work upwards
