We will be in touch
I've never sold a car on ebay before so I listed my car with the start time scheduled for 20:00 tonight. It started it at £1 with no reserve and there's been a very surprising amount of activity.
In the first 2 hours I've had over 500 views, 13 views, 85 watchers and over £2000 worth of bids. It's very exciting! But is this normal? If it is should have done it months ago.
My question is for those with experience, how many of these bidders and watchers will turn out to be utter time wasters? Is it a regular occurrence for someone to win the auction then either turn up and haggle or not turn up at all? It seems too good to be true I'm just wondering what the odds are of being messed around.
Basically, should I remain sceptical until I have the cash in my hand or can I commence smugness?
Commence smugness.
By bidding they have:
What have you agreed to?When a buyer places the successful bid on an item or clicks "Buy It Now", the two parties will have entered into a legally binding contract (with very few exceptions as detailed in our Non-Binding Bid Policy). The terms of the contract are set out in the seller's listing and in agreeing to buy the goods or services the buyer is accepting those terms.

This assumes your description is correct & they don't find any issues with your description when they turn up (negating that contract). Obviously it's up to you to take on precedings if they fail to buy
That's the theory anyway 😀

pretty confident that this won't happen!
i've met some 'characters' in the past when trying to sell cars i hope they give me a wide berth this time
Tip from guy at work
there is a scam where some one claims to be on ship. They arrange for some one else to pick it up
can't rememeber how it works but be warned
You should remain sceptical, even if the buyer has good feedback.
I change my car at least every year as I have a short attention span, and I sell them all on ebay.
I generally find about 50% of buyers actually follow through with the sale, and end up having to sell to the second highest bidder or relisting (numerous times).
Do you have a very exciting car, or is it still at the ridiculous bargain stage?
only once in over 600 sales have i had a sale fall through.. he was living in america.. i have though gone to pick up stuff and walked away if it was not as described.. your mint condition might not be everyones so i stick to very bland basics.. did have a guy try to return a punto he had for a week on the basis that 'some service history' should have been more than two itemised reciepts in the service book.. jog on said I and he did..
Be skeptical. Not just cash in hand but cash in bank or spent cash!
Sounds like a good start, though!
Got a link?
I didn't want to start the thread with a link and be accused of covert sales tactics but I doubt the population of STW will be too interested in something that is so uselessly impractical. In fact it's the most useless car I've ever had but also by far the most fun.

I'm genuinely shocked by how much attention it's had already. I just came in from a ride and answered 8 questions, mostly from people how appear to know what they're talking about. If it hits £3500 i'll be happy if it goes over £4000 i'll be very, very pleased. £5000 and I'm having a month in Whistler next year.
Quality car!
I've sold 2 cars on ebay. One with best offers and one, an 8 year old golf gti with no reserve starting at 99p. I got roughly what I would have through a private sale in the end for both. But they were standard cars.
I think you could be going to whistler. Baring the old i cant insure it i forgot i cant drive or just here for a test drive brigade.
