We need to put some stuff in storage to make way for a baby. Bikes, camping kit, things that need to be kept dry and secure.

These Big Yellow places are about £20/week for a 1.8m x 1.8m room, which would fit it all, but is there a better/cheaper way?

Any horror stories?

Firstly, that baby won't take up any less room as it gets older. Therefore, you won't get the space back.

Secondly - is it worth you spending a grand a year to store that kit? Is some of it worth selling now and buying again when you use it next against that grand to store it?

As a bloke who had lots of blokes toys, and now a 20 month old daughter, I am having to be far more realistic about what I'll use again and how often. Can you board out a loft of ponce of friends/relatives instead?

Get quotes and bargain..... Self storage prices is very much wheeling and dealing.

i.e. get the price of a small room, ask to see it, say its too small, ask if you can get a bigger one for the same price...

We'll be buying a house within the first half of next year after baby is born, so this is to free up enough space to save us from having to move to another rented place, paying the extortionate fees (£500!) and added rent (£200/month for an extra room).

The stuff to be stored will be the essentials that we'll need soon enough.
