Hi, I'm setting off in the van for a couple weeks of remote working and riding in the evenings and weekends in Scotland. I've got satellite internet in the van so connectivity is not an issue. I'm going to start of around Glentress / Innerleithen area for the first few days, but after that Im planning to vaguely head north west toward Glencoe / Nevis range then cut across toward Aviemore and Ballater. Open to any recommendations though for spots to ride or just nice areas to park the van.Â
Dunkeld is definitely worth exploringÂ
I was in Dunkeld on Sunday and going back this weekend. I would say it's a must.
Recently had a long weekend in Dunkeld/Pitlochry. Both well worth visiting!
As per my previous thread, be vigilant with locking your bike if you keep it outside the van! Â 😜Â
Can recommend campsite at Rothiemurcus just outside Aviemore. Lovely "secluded" pitches in the woods. Nice facilities and the owner was lovely.
Thats Dunkeld and Pitlochry added to the list for sure, just watched a couple youtube videos so thanks for the rec.Â
So sorry to see that Richard hope you manage to get the insurance sorted. Bikes will be kept firmly inside the van at all times under my bed. Thanks for the campsite recommendation, looks a lovely spot
Aviemore area and Royal Deeside area for brilliant riding, lovely places to stay and nice towns.
Aviemore: Rothiemuircus is good, but we also like https://www.campinginaviemore.co.uk/ and I think there's a formal Aire up at the ski centre. We found Glenmore campsite overpriced and crowded.Â
Deeside: Ballater Caravan park is a little 'meh' from a line of vans staying point of view, but it's community owned, some of the best facilities we've used, and 3 mins walk from all the pubs...Â
Braemar caravan park is superb, great facilities, usually a good view and a short walk to the pub...
I stayed at a wee campsite at Strathdon last year which was in a lovely setting and nice and relaxed but not much in the way of facilities. Kind of on the way from FW to Ballater/Aboyne. Â
Muir of Dinnet visitor centre lets you stay for a tenner a night, toilets, not sure about showers though.Â

No showers.
And unfortunately "discovered" by the Van lifers and Instagrammers. We have used it a few times out of season - and basically had us and one other van.Â
Went this March to find the 'maximum 6 vans' sign ignored and the place packed, including weed smoking and music outdoors headbangers.
That's a shame, we stayed there last year, late summer I think and it was very quiet. Midgies were very active so that may have helped.
I would add Glenlivet to the list.
It's has limited overnight parking behind the cafe.
A lovely area and it's great to support them as they invest alot in the trails. The new blue looks fun.
The trails at Aboyne (Birsemore Hill) and Ballater (Heartbreak Ridge, Final Destination) would be worth the trip alone.
All of the above added to my list.. I might need to extend the trip haha
I'll add the bermed oddity that is Tarland as well..... If you can't ride berms at great speed by the time you have put in a couple of laps, it's time to hand over your riding gloves...Â
