Hi all - bit of advice needed, please.

I'm signed up to do a half marathon on Sunday, but I'm still coughing lumps.

The lack of training is less of an issue, as I'll not be exactly going for a pb - I'll be dressed as a penguin and raising money for charity. I also don't want to abandon my mate who's doing the same.

I'd still prefer not to die, though...

Just go slow. Do not over exert yourself and stay hydrated.

As long as you are not pushing your body to its knackered limits, you should be ok.

p.s If you do die, I cannot be held responsible. You reading this is an agreement to these terms.

I am mostly definitely not an expert but I would assume that as long as you are doing it for charity in a penguin suit, and therefore not pushing yourself you'll be fine. Just take it easy, try and have a laugh and raise some money for a (I assume) good cause!

This too 😛

take it really, really easy.
You should be fine.

hydration will be key, as will keeping your heart rate below 75% max.

Good luck!

But what about the poor sod that rents that penguin suit next and gets all your sick germs?

Cool, thanks all for your help.

The cause is the Gleision Miners fund, so undoubtedly good and the penguin suit is not hired, so no danger to the public at large!

*waddles off to add bottle-sized pockets to the suit...*

Are you mad!

Surely you cannot hope to run/walk a half marathon whist coughing lumps up - what size are the lumps and what are they made of?

Asd for the Penguin suit, why would anyone want to dress up as a short black and white flightless, swimming bird - complete lunacy!!

As for letting down your co-runner, I am sure he has been let down by you in the past and is expecting you to be just as selfish as normal.........

In fact I am sure a quiet cycle around The new Blue trail at the Forest would be much healthier!

penguin suit as in dinner jacket or as in happy feet

makes no odds, just one's funnier (unless the outfit weighs a ton)

You'll be ok as long as you google gait and front foot striking.

best not, when you are fighting chesty/ flu coughs the heart muscles are sometimes slightly enlarged and under duress, a guy i knew of made front page of our local paper, he was 32 i think fit guy marathons etc went for a run whilst suffering like you and had a heart attack and died in a field, coroners report stated that the illness had placed his heart under strain and the run finished off, so be careful

You could make yourself very very very ill - as in end up in hospital - severe exertion (eg a marathon) cripples your immune system for several days, allowing whatever bug you have to rapidly expand and set in for the long haul.

a good run will clear you out, you shouldnt have skipped the last minute training, that would have fixed you even quicker
