What shoes for running over worms?

go to a proper running shop and let them guide you. Tell them budget up front, in my (admittedly limited) experience they are running enthusiasts too, and aren't there just to rip you off into the most expensive shoes in the shop.

best road shoes I have ever, ever used are New balance 890v3, trotting out about 50 miles a week in them, injury free

I have put a few hundred miles on a pair of adidas kanadia tr4. They have been replaced by the tr5 now but you can get them for under 40 quid online in several outlets.

If you are freakishly odd sized then you may pick up a pair of tr4s for under 30 quid.

They look very clumpy but they are actually pretty light and they are comfortable (for me) a trail shoe but I use them for jogging on paths and roads too and the grip is fine

oh, re. the Kanadias. I'd suggest one size more than you'd normally wear. I am a size 8 in all shoes/trainers but a 9 in both my pairs of adidas (and a half size extra in New Balance if that is of any help)

I've been v happy with the 2012 Nike Flex Trail, which were well within your budget and work well for me with a mix of on and off road.

I guess like all things in life, there might be some specialist running shops that don't give the best advice, just as there are some LBS's that don't either. However, I reckon I'm probably savvy enough that if i went in and said my budget was £50, and the only ones they recommend were miles off that, I'd question whether they have a broad enough range for me or indeed whether they were sheisters. Either way I'd be going for a second opinion somewhere else.

I certainly wouldn't be basing my choice on someone else's preferences or whether they're available on line for a bargain price. While they might be a fraction of the cost of a bike for example, I reckon being in the wrong shoes for running could lead to far worse issues than being on a bike that isn't perfectly fitted to you. I took easily as much time and trouble getting a pair of shoes i was happy in as i did choosing my last bike.

That was last week's fad. It's now been conclusively proved that solid steel clogs are the best thing since nailing clingfilm to the soles of your feet to keep them dry.

Many manufacturers only allow a certain concentration of their shoes in a certain area. I used to work in a specialist running shop and this was the case. You couldnt stock Asics for example if they had another outlet nearby one reason being it led to competitive discounting.
I think my point is (as I have said before) why would you assume that somebody who works in a shop who likley has little training and is paid probably close to the minimum wage is going to give you "expert" advice? Maybe they will use that magic trick of watching you run on a treadmill 🙄

I don't suppose you've been to Accelerate in Sheffield lately, i should be passing that way soonish. Curious as to whether it's worth the detour off the M1?

Ive not been since their first year open.

In my local running shop you get served by Julie, who is the owner and a decent runner. Happy to pay a premium for the advice and being able to try on different shoes, and it also keeps a local shop open in the high street. ASICS for me every time, but everyone is different.

they've got a good selection of stuff, and the shop is in an 'interesting' part of town. there's a good hours entertainment looking around shops selling scale models, sex-toys and old engineering kit.
