It should have nothing to do with the "laws as they are": It's dangerous play, end of story.

Don't disagree, what i mean is that in the past it would have been 'acceptable'

is there any other sanction - as in a time / game ban? Or does he play next week?

'Jerome are you sure you don't want another look?' meaning of course are you sure you finally want to penalised one of the dirty gits

On another note: The scrums are becoming as bad as Rugby League i.e. no-contest.

honestly it's been nice to see scrums not collapsing at the first push. Looking a lot better than the Australian series.

I think they were all aware how big a call and wanted it to be right.

That was a shocking challenge from SBW. The Kiwi's hate Jerome anyway; he apparently handed out more yellow cards to AB players than any other ref.

Itoje is having a pretty good game today and is everywhere. For a lock, he's putting in a fair old shift.

Yup those penalties are undoing the good work that they're doing.

Interesting call by Hansn to take off a backrower to get another centre on. Guess the option for the Lions was to get Te'o on to run at a missing centre.

Opportunity knocks, are they good enough, too many individual errors so far. Itoje immense and AWJ playing a good supporting role to the young star. Sam putting it in on the gainline. Liam dropping everything. Might be worth bring on McGrath to go for the scrums a bit more.

Did Sky just say that's the first red card to NZ in 50 years?!?

Moreover, what did one have to do to get a red card 50 years ago?

They're all in kickable positions too. Luckily BB has missed a few kicks today.

Not good enough so far.

By all rights we should be nine points behind if BB had packed his kicking boots this week.

Not a good start to the second half at all.

Six point lead with a man down.

Jeez. We really need to sort our composure and discipline.

The sending off has blown apart the Lions' tactical and mental approach to the game. From trying to contain the ABs and perhaps nick it, but being expected to lose, to the exact opposite with the pressure of humiliation if they screw up this opportunity.

Mistake a player's head for the ball, Colin Meads is no longer than last AB sent off.

Fudge me.

The penalties they're giving away are stupid; offsides etc. They're not even those penalties that you give away to safe seven points.

They're compounding the errors now. Time for some impact off the bench. Five penalties already this half.

Time for some good old fashioned NH shove it up the jumper rugby.

Man sent off for serious foul play

Barrett had his boots on the wrong feet.

But we did score all the tries, Farrell with the boot was virtually flawless, it was only indiscipline and mainly from one player that nearly cost us.

I think the scoreboard said we were best?

Mako pinged for 3 pens - one completely wrong he was on his feet. The charge down - marginal but ok (AB did identical - play on) and the clear out I disagree with.

Awesome result. Bit unsure about that penalty though - what's a tackler supposed to do if someone jumps at them? Lay out the red carpet and clap them through?

If Barrett had had his boots on, NZ would have been out of sight for sure. But he didn't and it was the Lions who crossed the line twice, both times very well. So, ifs and buts aside, fair dues to them, that's a colossal result to take it to 1-1. Vunipola will be relived I should think.

Phew.

Wonder how much 'physicality' the AB's will bring next week now?

Shane Williams cracks me up as a pundit; all of the key X factor players he listed after today were Welsh. I thought a Jiffy was one eyed but he's got competition! 😆

plenty of challengers, but I'd go SBW 😉 Seriously, Conor Murray.Good lions performance, aside from the 20 mins when they lost their heads. Glad to be proved wrong and AWJ had a good game. Sexton/Farrell also.

Agreed that Read is a class act, during the match, after the game and in his interview.

Wow Jamba... writing the headlines for the NZ press already

Karen Reed smiling whilst warmly congratulating the Lions after losing a 49 home match winning streak was awesome so see. Nothing but respect!

More like a wry smile "well done, but you know you got lucky". Definitely wasn't happy with the final penalty as well as a lot all the way through. Although obviously biased I saw it more as jumping to catch a crap pass and then being tackled rather than jumping in to a tackle

One key difference today were the Lions upping the niggle and not being rolled over. NZ tv crew did their best to get SOB sent of for his swinging arm too, which if they took a look at could have been iffy. Second try was very much made by Farrell holding Perenara's foot and the space opened up when he wriggled free away from the ruck.

The Lions were definitely their own worst enemy for most of the game but the side looked a lot more balanced. Although no-one will say it, massive credit to Gatland. Playing like today and reducing the individual errors gives at least a glimmer of hope for the third Test!

We were lucky, but you need that sometimes and to beat the (almost) All Blacks is a great moment. Set up for a fiery encounter next week with an angry ALL Blacklash likely.

After my comments ^ glad that AWJ played very well. Someone needs to keep an eye on Private Pile if he comes on next week. Too much fire and sily penalty candidate even at 80;00

Dylan must be assuming his England starting days are over - JG clearly the #1 English hooker now.

Glad for Gatts after all the shit he took - game on!

Excellent morning - hangover (!?), fresh coffee, bacon baps x2, good company and a result - the result

I thought jumping into the tackle was illegal?? Still who gives a ****, game on.

Glad to see AWJ played well, I especially liked the way he got stuck in when the all blacks tried the niggle with Itoje, it was real old pro protection stuff. Itjoe was outstanding but still needs to work on not giving away pens.

Credit to Gatland Sexton and Faz really worked when we had the ball and also a wotd about Captain Sam, nothing flash but plenty of big hits and spoiling at the ruck, if I had a pound for everytime the ref shouted hands out 6 I'd have at least a dozen pounds by now!!!
