Hi,

I have to visit various banks all over the UK, Is there something out there where I can put in the address and the software will recommend a route?

Many thanks

Plum

google maps will allow you to put multiple destinations ( and plan fast get-a-way routes )

Try Michelin Maps - works ok.

There will definitely be. One of the divisions of the company I work for has a product that is used alongside Microsoft MapPoint to optimise routes. However we've not yet "Anglicized" it so wouldn't be much good for you. There must be other non-corporate solutions out there.
download.cnet.com is a good place to search for stuff like this. I got 4 results under "route optimisation".

Start with http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Travelling_salesman_problem

Then read http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Computational_complexity
followed by http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/P_versus_NP_problem
and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nearest_neighbour_algorithm

Sorry. There's no easy solution. Pick the closest one, then the next closest to that one etc gives a moderately efficient solution.
