Anyone got any recommendations for roof bars for an Astra J Estate with aluminium roof rails fitted.

Halfords seem to only do very expensive options. Ebay do very cheap generic fit options but not sure how good these will be and if they will really fit. It seems to be having the roof rails that makes it awkward (I thought this would make it easier).

Any recommendations greatly appreciated. Thanks

Have you checked here.  https://www.roofbox.co.uk/roof-bars/

Just about to get some for my i40 from here. Seems cheaper than anywhere else and good reviews.

stumpy01 - I found that company but hadn't heard of them before so wasn't sure if they were any good. I don't want them falling off with the bike attached. If someone has positive experiences of them then I might be tempted as the price seems good. Thule are looking for £200 plus!

I used the roofbox company. They are sound and very helpful on the phone..I brought some atera roofbars for my astra h but they were a pretty poor fit.

In the end I plumped for some generic Halfords ones which were spot on.

Whereabouts are you? I’ve got some Thule bars that were on my Octavia. £50 in West Yorkshire . Gumtree are normally good for this kind of thing

Im in Derby. If you have roof rails are they all the same and therefore one bar will fit the same car? I haven't fitted to roof rails before and have had to get specific fitting feet for the individual car with each car being different.

robbo1234biking - I bought some Atera bike carirers from roofbox.co.uk about a decade ago and they are fine.

I recently needed some roof bars for our C3 Picasso family wagon & used them again. They are frequently recommended & have been going for a decent amount of time.

Incidentally, I went  for the Atera Signo bars, as they were on special offer & looked better than the Thule offerings. But, the roof bars on the C3 Picasso are the type that are raised from the roof, rather than run along the roof line, so I suspect the attachment will be slightly different.

Be careful with this. I think the Octavia roof rails are of the sort where the rail is actually lifted from the roof. The ones on the Astra look  like the ones that are attached to the roof along the entire length. These will require different fixings.

If you are being offered bars from a certain car and aren't sure if they are compatible, put your car into the roofbox.co.uk search window & see what comes up. Then put the car that you are being offered bars from in as well & compare whether the same bars come up.

My mate has got bars from an Octavia estate & they fit my C3 Picasso - I know because I have used them. But, before i fitted them, I checked with the comparison method above & saw that both cars have the same roof bar options listed. They also both  have the same 'raised rails' which gave me confidence with the results from checking on roofbox.co.uk.

By the way, I have no affiliation with that site, just that i have found them to be well priced & with good customer service. They always seem to get mentioned when there are threads asking about roof bars/boxes etc.

I have bought my last 3/4 sets from roof box.co.uk they’re very good don’t worry, cheapest you’ll get new normally.

I had Atera ones on my Astra estate, bit less than thule but the Thule system is a bit better to get on and off imo.

I had an Astra J estate and used these: MWay brand, silver alu. with T-Track compatibility

https://www.maypole.ltd.uk/rb1035-mway-m-profile-xl-universal-ali-roof-bars-135m-for-flush-roof-rails

Did loads of miles with a Thule Bike rack on the T-Track fittings and had no issues
