So today I managed to scuff the front of the works van on a lump of rock hidden in the verge, while attempting a fairly optimistic 3-point-turn on a single track road.
No cracks or serious damage, just a palm sized area of deep scratches/gouges into the plastic bumper.
So, how to fix on the cheap. I don't want to chuck it towards a body shop to be fleeced out of many pounds so am looking for a reasonably priced DIY fix.
So far the shopping list extends to - Paint (Renault TEB64), primer (plastic specific), filler (bumper specific), Wet-Dry paper (numerous grades).
Anything else I need to add to that list.
Hoping for the weather to improve a bit this weekend to give me time to sort it then.
I think I know what I am doing, but am basing this only on the airfix models I built as a kid.
Anybody with experience + tips would be great!
Cheers,
Dicky
its a works van?
does anyone else give a shit?
Unfortunately yes, office manager will get the rage!
Other option is just 'fess up and take it on the chin I suppose
fess up and let them fix it?
ask him why he got colour coded bumpers - always thought that was a bit stupid.
now you cant bump bumpers without marking them.
rubber bumpers !
Patience is key.
800 the whole area to paint.
Do first fill. Easy on the hardner in warm weather but you have to use enough, do a practice sample to see what working time you have before it starts to go off.
400-600 that off.
800 after that.
2nd fill or if happy hit it with primer.
800 that off again.
Primer,
primer
800
Top coat.
1200 light.
Top coat
Now if you have plenty of paint on at this point but it still looks pants, dont worry.
1200 lots of water.
Try it with a T cut & polish see how it looks.
Oh I forgot, after each coat of paint invert the can & spray to clear nozzle, only use light coats, even if it looks a little dry all the catting back with wet n dry will bring you the shine.
Rattle can job, the sides of the tank are just the decals but you can see the finish on the top.
