[Closed] Road cycling - long weekend Francais - help

My chum has a fairly significant birthday next year and I would like to treat him to some continental cycling. I've never cycled abroad, neither has he, but leaving him out of it for a minute, I would love to do either L'Alpe-d'Huez or Mont Ventoux. Cliched, I know but I don't really care. I know it's been done before and I know I could have spent more time searching the forum, but I would be very grateful for suggestions on:
- best way to get there (from Scotland)
- best place to stay
- any other location ideas

it is probably going to be 4 days at the most in June 2018.
