I want to rip my CD's to FLAC to put on a NAS drive eventually. What software (preferably free) exactly do I need to achieve this so that all track data, cover art etc. Is automatically transferred with the minimum of faff. I am running Windows XP.

I think freerip will

(have a sneaking suspicion that it installs some sort of low-grade kackware with itself, so run malwarebytes or similar afterwards)

The best ripping program is EAC in secure mode, the easiest I have found in terms of tagging, artwork etc is probably Media Monkey.

So what is the actual ripping procedure then-can I Just bung a cd in & let the programmes run & end up with a complete file package or do I have to rip then add track
a & cover details after?

Use foobar2000, get the flac plug in and some tagging plugins, jobs a goodun and no faffware to go with it.
