British actor Anthony Head, best known for his roles in TV shows including Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Ted Lasso, Merlin and Little Britain, has died at the age of 72.
Head found international fame as Rupert Giles in hit supernatural teen show Buffy in the late 1990s.
He went on to have a recurring role in sketch show Little Britain as the prime minister, he played king Uther Pendragon in the BBC's Merlin, and appeared as former football club owner Rupert Mannion in Ted Lasso.
"He passed away peacefully of complications due to pneumonia, surrounded by his family," his daughters Emily and Daisy said.
Shit.
Always liked this advert ,if not the product. He came across as a likeable guy.
Here's hoping he comes back as a pigeon. Coo.
(If you haven't listened to Bleak Expectations, now is the time)
He came across as a likeable guy.
Seems to be so.
I'm genuinely gutted about this. I'm a huge BtVS fan anyway, but he's always played a good part and from what I've read over the years it sounded like he was well loved and respected by those who knew him / worked with him. He was vocal coach for a number of American actors doing English accents, notably James Marsters (Spike).
Wasn't he also the original Adam Klaus in Jonathan Creek?
FFS: the Grim Reaper is decimating one of my favourite late 90s shows.
Oddly never seen anything he's been in other than maybe Little Britain (seen clips on YouTube).
72..... Not a that long a life, but a full one.
Got a call the other day saying my cousin's fella has gone into hospital. A day later I was told he was dead. Some liver or kidney cancer. 55.
Make the most of it, folks.
I heard this just earlier from a friend. I’m only now working my way through Buffy (up to season 4) and Angel (season 1). But I saw AH on Little Britain and in other appearances.
72 is young but what a cultural impression he’s left.
edit. Hoping I make it that far.
Jeez, his wife only died 6 months ago at the age of 61.
He has had an amazingly successful and diverse tv career.
I like this dialogue from Yonderland. ‘Where do you stand on fat balls? I’m a fat ball man myself. I pop them out in the garden and before I know it I can’t move for tits’. Exit bewildered woman.
I saw him at Château de Pierrefonds but he had got too close for me to tell my wife without her going all weird. She has never forgiven me because apparently she wouldn’t have gone all weird
Damn, 72 is no age these days
He and his wife had an animal rescue/shelter place just outside Bath, been there for years. I was outside a bike shop that was situated underneath Bath Spa station one day, and he was there sorting out a couple of bikes for a ride along the canal Sustrans cycle path. Had one of those brief nod recognition moments, but didn’t have time to actually chat about Buffy, which was on around that time.
Such a shame for his family, especially his daughters, losing both their parents so close to each other, a devastating loss. 🙁
