The name won't mean much to many people on here, but I'm sure it will to some. After a short illness, Frank Conway, warden of the Church Bothy at Tarbet on Loch Nevis has passed away, aged, well if you knew him you'd know how little that mattered.
For those that didn't know him, in his 80's frank ran a hostel nowhere near a road, with no phone communication and an occasional ferry service to the nearest town. One of the most foul mouthed individuals I've ever met, you couldn't keep a straight face for more than 5 minutes in his company.
RIP Frank, I'll be raising a glass to you tonight

Someone else sent this to me:

I'm sure Frank would have been delighted by the outrage it caused 🙂

For sure makes me want to read the book of his memoirs.

I'm sure he would have been gutted not to have been at the root of something. But knowing that the bishops views on Cameron are that he should be "consigned to hell for all eternity" for reading out some of Frank's words would have provided a good few nights entertainment.

The pic's not mine (sadly) but you're right it's brilliant, it sums him up better than words.

BTW, to get an idea of where he lived, look at Google Maps for Loch Nevis. The bothy is at the remote end of the ferry route

A true character, met him a couple of times at the bothy, the inside of which was an eclectic collection of stuff, including a Portaloo in the corner by the door

Sad loss of a genuine character..

The thing I remember is...
looking out the window at the stunning scenery, I saw, for the first time ever, an otter playing about 10 ft away.
"What a beautiful tranquil place" I remember thinking to myself
From behind me I heard frank say "..and I think you'll like this"
Thinking he meant the otter, the scenery, the place I replied "oh i do it's.. WTF IS THAT?"
as the singing reindeer with the flashing nose sang the theme from Rawhide
