With all the fuss about Altered Carbon on the telly a while back I went and read the Takeshi Kovacs trilogy and whilst I liked it I wasn't that blown away.
Just replaced my Brooken Kindle and whist browsing the store somehow ended up with Market Forces, Black Man and Thin Air.
Dammit they're good. Up there with Gibson and Stephenson in my view (which is about as high as it gets for me). Time to go back and reread the trilogy.

Netflix have made a right shabby job of it in my opinion. Turned it in to some weird love story thing when it should be a violent cyberpunk type affair. They also made Kovacs a bit wet.

Must admit I prefer Thin Air and Black Man too. It’s the embarrassing sex scenes that let down the Kovacs books. Comes across as a bit teenager. The world building is great though. His fantasy trilogy is worth a read too.

Nice, unassuming bloke too. He used to (may still) climb at the climbing wall where I worked. A colleague knew the books and asked him 'you're not the Richard Morgan are you?' to which he slightly sheepishly admitted he was. They climbed a bit together after that and said colleague actually has a credit in one of the books for climbing advice!

I've read the first in the Kovacs trilogy and whilst it was OK I don't think I'd bother with the rest. Might have to give one of his other ones a go.

I do like his stuff as said he does do a brilliant bit of world building.

Yep the fantasy trilogy is pretty good as well.

I think there’s probably a bit of skill required to carry a sex scene off in sf,never seem to remember any good one’s but never forget comedy gold like a drone buying a hat as get well present for a head that was having his body regrown.

Broken Angels is good, not got to Woken Furies yet. But I read Thin Air and enjoyed it immensely.

Was that the wee shite bag in Player of Games or the psycho in Use of Weapons?

Yeah, before I even read this I was gonna comment on SF sex scenes, sometimes you wonder if the authors have ever actually had any. Reads like something out of Razzle at times. I don't have an issue with the sex itself as opposed to the way it's described. Actually, scrap Razzle, My Dad Wrote a Porno.

Sounds more like ‘Use Of Weapons’ than ‘Player...’, which I’ve only read once, I really dislike the main protagonist.

Yeah, sounds more like Skaffen-Amtiskaw.

Gurgeh was a bit of an arse but a useful one.

Seems I'm at the opposite end of the spectrum, loved the kovacs trilogy, but couldn't stand Market forces or black man / thin air. Loved the fantasy work too.
Thought Netflix did as good a job as they could with altered carbon, not great but watchable. I'm loving the second series - def improvement.

Been reading Woken Furies, not as engaging as the first two and finding the use of c*** in every sex scene to be utterly off putting. Kinda feels like he wasn't really trying with this one.
