There is a big hill near me with two large transmission masts...I can't find the height of the masts but the hill is 180 metres and I reckon the masts are 40-60 metres.
I often go for a night ride in the area and there are no red lights atop the masts, pretty sure I've not seen them for two or three years but they used to be illuminated.
Google has failed me, there must be somewhere I can report it? Its handy as a navigation aid so I don't really want to see the place wiped out by a helicopter...
If it’s an Arqiva site then report it to them or maybe the CAA. I saw that a month ago and thought they should have lights on.
It might be that the masts have been condemned for rigging on so they may not be replaceable.
Saw something that said it was a Sussex police site but I'm sure I've seen Arqiva signs last time I was working there.
It could well be condemned as the site has been there since the 60's, I don't know what the lifespan of these sorts of things are...
Found an email address on that caa website after a few minutes so will fire one off to them, thanks 🙂
Those are only little ‘uns. There’s a policy at present to try and replace red lights with IR at the mo, as most low level night flying is done on night vision goggles now. So they might just have a black light on now?
Granted they are not silly high cable stayed towers, but being on a hill they are over 200 metres/700 feet above the surrounding relatively flat area so presumed they would warrant a proper red light?
Maybe the flight paths have been changed in the area so no need for them to be on? might be worth contacting a local flying club. If they have been deliberately turned off for some reason the CAA will have issued a notification to the flying community so they might have knowledge of it. If not they'll certainly know how to report it.
