What's the deal then? Should I just go to the kiosk in the shopping mall or is there an easy/obvious place to buy the bits and do it myself? From the instructions I've seen it's not beyond my wit and ability but equally imagine it could potentially end in tears. TIA for any intel, cheers!
I bought a new battery from here [url= https://www.replacebase.co.uk/ ]https://www.replacebase.co.uk/[/url] and the kit and did it myself, it was very straightforward. I also replaced the dock as that was broken and again it was nice and simple. Follow the guides on iFixit and you can't really go wrong.

Take it carefully, there are a few small fiddly bits as well as the tiny screws. Changed mine no problem but the eBay battery doesn't last a day with any decent amount of use.
