Rememeber that time when you polished your Dad's car and left chalky white marks all over the matt back trim, which never came off? It's the chalky polishing compound lodging in the suface texture. I've only gone and done it on my matt charcoal grey frame..... grrrr.
You could buy a "back to black" restoring gel, which was just a glycerine gel that wetted the surface and made it dark and shiny but that didn't remove the polishing compound.
What solvent will remove it? I've tried kerosine and IPA, no luck.
Lots of soapy water and a nail brush,dry it off then a bit of baby oil to finish.

Mr Sheen could be pretty good for that.
Try spraying it on, leave for a few mins then use a microfibre cloth.
+1 for Mr Sheen,works a treat on getting chalky white stains out off rubber underwear,so I've heard.
