We are upping sticks & moving to Bavaria early next year & I have noticed that our M&S Premium contents insurance doesn't cover us outside the UK. It also doesn't cover us for 'scratches' caused by the removal company.

The move will be carried out by a professional removals company instructed by my employer.

My question is - Can anyone recommend an insurance policy that they have used in my circumstances (ie outside of the UK). I am more interested in customer service if things were damaged/scratched rather than a cheap quote. 😀

My thanks in advance.

If its an employer move, just get the policy offered by the removal company, which ought to be in the 'price'. And I'd recommend these guys:

http://www.momentousmoving.com/

They moved us in the summer upto Scotland, and 10 years ago they moved us to Germany and then back. Didn't bother with insurance as we've M&S too, but nothing was damaged in any of the moves.

I paid insurance with our move to oz. I think it was something like 1-2% of the value. We lost a plate and a glass so didn't bother claiming. Everything was incredibly well packed

Sadly, it's the MOD who choose who moves us & I'm expecting the cheapest (read worst) company they can contract, hence why I'm trying to preempt any problems.

My friend was moved a few months ago & suffered lots of damage. 🙄

As with all things the MOD contract - The worst possible product, for the highest possible price......

So any specific companies that people have had good service from would be much appreciated.

Sounds like a confusing process 🙂

Yet I've been moved (across Europe and in the UK) and had nothing but the very best service provided by incredibly capable people. You will only hear about the crappy moves and never the good ones.

You get a 5hit service, and I have to pay for it...

tbh When we moved to Germany (and back) I got a quote from the company recommended supplier (Pickfords), and it was about £10k and going to take over a week, via a couple of depots. I went for a local company (they then specialised in UK-Italy), it was £5k and they emptied our house on a Friday and delivered it Sunday. We were all in, unpacked by the evening.
