Apropos of nothing in particular*, what are the restrictions on a registered design? If a bike brand has registered the design (patent has run out) can I make something similar and not get in trouble?
I don't want to make an exact copy, and I'd prefer to use the genuine article, but that might not be possible in future. It wouldn't be in direct competition with the genuine article.

Design Right is sometimes easier to defend than Patent.
Depends exactly what it is, and how the Design registration is worded, it may be an easy one to "Reverse engineer" with some slight alterations, which would give you the "same but just different enough" to be legal and above board
Hmm, it's probably something I don't want to do ethically anyway, just a particular bike manufacturer being a pain in the arse.
