Well, its offical, another one on the redundancy heap.
On the plus side, apart from the inevitable cash supply worry, I'm actually quite pleased. I have the opportunity to gain a private life and start regular riding again, and stop being a weekend Dad and husband.
Plus, I'm not even sure I want to remain in the industry I've been working in for the last 7 years.
So, what job for an Environmental Pollution scientist with a background in Contaminated land assessment, Project and Site Management, with a smattering of COntract management thrown in?
I will be awarding points for the most creative suggestions. 😀
Sound's like your used to getting down and dirty, . . . .
porn?
What do points make?
Bin man
£5/hr + all you can eat
Sorry to hear that Colin, A/mouth is falling apart at the seams I've never known anything like it, even in the 90's recession.
How many of you were made redundant?
You could be Brants Max Clifford?
politician we need someone to get us out of the sh1t
Best of luck in whatever you do mate.
PT
You should apply to some of the UK's major chemical producers.
Serious suggestion - sounds like a perfect opportunity to become a consultant and self employed. With the way things are, there are likely to be lots of opportunities for consulting work as companies/organisations still need the work doing but don't want the long term commitment and extra cost of a full time employee.
Bin man£5/hr + all you can eat
Hahaha.
And you'll usually finish between 12 and 3pm, handy for afternoon rides.
How's about a role in a SHE (Safety Health & Environmental) dept. at a big engineering/construction company?
Or is that where you've come from?
Fluffer?
More than £5/hr, still all you can eat.
Fluffer?
Even fluffers are redundant these days. Blame Viagra though not Brown.
Bad luck scienceofficer, chin up, the world will turn.
What Steve said, but a lot of the EDC companies are struggling right now, on the other hand the one I work for seems to be doing well (rumours of expanding into more offices!).
Mail me and i'll put you in touch if your interested.
Sorry to hear that. Don't know where you are located/ what you're after but the consultancy field still seems to be recruiting (sure you've browsed ENDs already).
Although as you say, good opportunity to rethink it all if you've had enough of your current job ... I know I have..! Still may be worth side stepping if at all possible to keep some income coming in while you work out what to do next. Good luck with it.
Mike?
12 last july, another 5 last friday (inc me) Ho hum.

Look at a brand new career, how about police? Fire brigade?? Just some foodf or thought ..
some consultancies are recruiting - the one I work for are, but we don't have an office near you. (At least one or two are meant to be in serious financial trouble though......) Contaminated land however isn't an area with much work and a lot of consultanices have reduced the number of staff in that area of work - waste however seems to be booming. Try a couple of the recruitment agencies, I've been approached by two in the last month to move.
The EA are probably after staff following their latest restructuring, but you may not want to go back there.
I I've worked out how to put my email in my profile, email me and I may have a contact or two who could help.
I got made redundant on December 23rd. I've been loving every minute so far. The Dole is sh1te, but the opportunity to ride your bike is endless, for a while.
Fortunately for me, having been stressing for the last month, a few things have now all come along at once. Hopefully I'll be gainfully employed before the redundancy money runs out.
If you know anything about COMAH and IPPC then this maybe?

ps isn't science wonderful.................
Thats interesting. At the EA I was a 'Waster' for 6 years. I'd not go back to the EA unless I had too - you can't really raise a family on an EA salary, but the other side of the fence could be quite interesting.
I'd rather stick pins in my eyes than do IPPC!
The problem is, at 35 I still don't know what I want to do when I grow up!

Yep it's me, If I can do anything to help let me know, although vacancy wise you're a bit 'specialist' for my Agency.
In all seriousness. A friend now runs guided rides and skills courses from his home here in South Wales. Business is good. He needed to register with the Tourist Board, do his tax returns, get a decent first aid certificate, get 'qualified' with the Scottish Mountainbiking peeps. Mapwork and general navigation brushed up. And away we go...
He uses his own home as acommodation for clients and kips with his partner when his house is otherwise occupied.
my new band needs a tour manager 😉
Another one here 25 years in my job and they are moving the lot to the Czech Republic and Korea and making me redundant....... pretty scary really but life goes on even with two kids and a whacking great mortgage!
you've probably tried earthworks-jobs, but there are usually a few CL related jobs on there.
not sure about going it on yer own in this climate tbh. not sure i'd recommend it.
you could do research (possibly get sponsorship/funding/salary, which would be better than nothing) and in circa 3 years hope the economy has improved.
