The wife wants a pvr to watch some recorded programmes after she's fell asleep on the sofa.
I've suggested using the Apple TV box and iplayer/etc but that wasn't the right answer.
If we already have freeview tv's, do I need a pvr with built in freeview or can I record directly off the tele?

Why record stuff these days? You can watch nearly anything streamed on demand.
Wrong answer?

You need a pvr with freeview really. Some teles have the option to plug a drive in but the interface will be clunky. A pvr will have all the features and a an easy to use interface and remote. Humax are popular but mine was buggy. Have a Panasonic now which is great. Still better than streaming too imo

Just put a shiny box there and give her an old remote. Tell her she's watched something, and enjoyed it.
If she's asleep she won't know the difference 😆

I tend to use iplayer through iPad and Apple TV if I just want to catch up. However, if want to record freeview I have a Sony hard disc recorder. I can burn DVDs from that.
