Looking for a campsite (not caravan park) NR St Andrews 2 adults 2 kids. We like basic rather than full on with bar etc. We would need showers and loos, no electricity required. We have had trouble finding somewhere good in the area before, many don't take tents or are massive touring sites. Really needs to be within 20 min absolutely max as we are visiting family.

Alternatively anyone in Fife got a field / large garden and a shower in shed fancy homing us?

There's one at Knockhill of Nydie that is a field with everything you need. It's a short walk to the excellent Strathkinness Tavern, about fifteen minutes cycle from St Andrews and the MTB trails in Kemback Woods are five minutes ride away.

I came on the thread to recommend the same one as @munrobiker.

I camped there when my sister graduated from St Andrews a few years ago.

Great apart from mega windy being up on the hill!

Wow 15 min bike that's even better! That one looks like a real possibility. We used to stay on camping and caravanning club certificate site on a hill near by so know the score with the wind.

Guaranteed it'll be into your face on the ride down, and again on the ride back. Such is cycling in the East Neuk.

Another +1 for that campsite above. Would heartily recommend a meal at the Strath Tav but book in advance as the restaurant is generally very busy. Always some decent beers on tap too. Source: I live in Strath.

Is it still there and operating (obviously its still physically there). The website doesnt seem to be working.

To be fair when i go to St Andrews i go via the Pitscottie/Blebo road so dont pass it/can see it.

Good point. It was recently bought by Stewarts Resort and they've been doing some work, but it has had caravans and tents there when I've been past.
