I have ten quid on itunes and no inspiration (can't be arsed raking through hundreds of music clips). What should I get? I generally listen to metal, but point me towards anything... something new or something old - I dont care...

STS.

Following on from the Copey recommendation above:

Brain Donor - Love Peace & F u c k

Also:

Orthodox - Gran Poder
Vibravoid - The Politics of Ecstasy
Heads - Under the Stress of a Headlong Dive
Wooden Shjips - s/t

are all worth a look (as are their other releases) and should be okay for a metalhead to enjoy 🙂

Oh yeah, I'm enjoying Dungen a lot at the moment too.

I've just found out about [urlwww.last.fm/]last fm
free - give it a try - enter the name of someone you like, then hit the fast forward button and see what comes up next. Or just try some of the suggestions from above, and again a few few forward clickys and see what happens

If you haven't heard it already: Mastodon - Crack the Skye

It's a brilliant, brilliant album. Really big sound, heavy as anything and just generally fantastic. In fact I think I might put it on now.

I just had a look for this and can't find this album, are you sure that's right? I'd like some recommendations for ISIS albums as I've struggled to get into their stuff before. I think I have Wavering Radiant at the moment.

Awesome, thanks. I'll give one of those two a go then. Might explain why I struggled a bit with Wavering Radiant 🙂

Mastodon - hmmm - for me they are a nearly but not quite. Quite like the kind of album that tells a story though. Biffy Clyro - nope (even though they are Scottish).

Blimey - I am difficult to please aren't I?

British Sea Power

= boring. Strum strum strum, blah blah blah... god I am bored just thinking about it.

Do you like rock music?

yes - that is why I am NOT going to buy British Sea Power. I'd rather listen to the sound of paint drying.

OK - lets try a different tack - what about classic rock/metal (e.g. old stuff/proper music)?

Heathen - oddly, I seem to have pretty much the entire Hawkwind backcatalogue already. I have no idea where the hell it came from though.

PlumzRichard - I've got all the rage against the machine stuff - have done for years, as with SOAD, but I'll have a look at the other suggestions...

Sputnik - The Mars Volta aren't very good really.

Am currently thinking that the new Rammstein album might be worth a go (since I've got all the rest). Or am thinking about some of the old Anvil stuff - classic!

Sonic Youth. Plenty out there, but perhaps the holy triumverate of Evol, Sister and Daydream Nation. Not metal though, more experimental rock.

How about some swedish metal - Grand Magus? Fairly old school sabbath like sounds (just slower and heavier and soundgarden type vocals), I like their self titled album the best. Also try King Hobo - awesome band.

How about some old stuff - Steve Marriott's pack of 3, Rory gallagher, Jack Bruce? Or, for those gentle moments, The Incredible String Band? Or, one artist to trump them all, the great, the most underrated, Richard Thompson!!
