MegaSack DRAW - This year's winner is user - rgwb
We will be in touch
Fancy some nice comfy big cans,, well not necessarily big, but over-ear type, mainly to use at work, so sound leakage needs to be fairly minimal.
Whats good?
Sennheisser HD25.
And, for the very first time, I shall say: End of thread. Because it is.
My OH wanted a pair for Christmas. We auditioned every pair of headphones in a 30 mile radius, and ended up with these.

She loves them to bits. Guy in Richer asked what sort of music she listened to, she said "it varies, but mostly at the moment I'm listening to folk music and Skrillex." His face was priceless. (-:
HD25's here too.

chart music would have sufficed im sure
not jvc - mines although sound decent and the noise cancelling works ..... the ****ing pivots broke.
OP, you've not given a budget.
Sensible price range, these are very good: http://www.amazon.co.uk/electronics/dp/B00001W0DI
They're aimed at the studio monitor (FRFR) end of the market but sound great with a MP3 player and also sound great if you're making music. I've used them with Pocket POD, HD300 and my JMP-1 pre and they sound fantastic.
Rather than the headphone speaker colouring the sound it leaves it more open for you to EQ. I've also got the obligatory Bose headphones and these (at less than half the price) drub them in every aspect*.
*Your ears may be different 😉
Non sensible price range:
The Gadget Show tested some ( linky )Rachel Riley liked the Sonys and Parrots I think. I listen to her.
EDIT
Linky doesn't work when quoted
From my question on here the other day.
I got the Parrots. Well made up with how well they integrate with my IPhone and sound quality is very good after tweaking the EQ stuff in the App.

These! Don't know what they sound like but they look awesome!

These:

£17. Marvellous!
Sennheiser, Grado, Sony, BeyerDynamic and Audio Technica all have a proper pedigree and have been making good studio and home phones for years - Beats by Dre, not so much. I'd look at a decent pair of phones from one of them if you are serious about quality a combined USB DAC and head amp works wonders maybe a Firestone Audio Fubar it would sound very good indeed with some decent phones..

You can get some Behringer cheapy headphone monitors for about £25 but they are nowhere near as good. I binned mine.
£50-60 is a very good price for the quality. If you look after them well, they will last many years (parts are replaceable too) so if you look at it from a price per year perspective rather than an upfront one off cost, they are reasonable. 🙂
I should probably add that those Monoprices really are very good.
I have some lower-end Sennheisers that they knock into a cocked hat, and they give my home-studio Audio-Technica ones a run for their money.

I'm sure they are reasonable at £50-£60 Captain, its just that the Amazon link you provided is selling them for £540 (plus £4.70 postage) 😀
Sennheiser HD419 for a sensible priced option.
Bose ae2 getting more expensive (some people don't like the sound of bose headphones, but I think they are a good mobile set)
Focus spirit one, getting rather nice still under 200 quid and as good as anyone's ears will be able to tell.
Check out the Marley rang - lovely lovely 'phones. I would not hesitate to recommend Senheisser HP25's for DJ'ing / Studio use but they're too clinical for my taste for general listening.
I have the Marley Positive Vibes - my review on Amazon follows (53/55 people say they found it useful!):
I've been looking for a new pair of headphones for general music listening as my Sennheiser HP25-SP's I use for DJ'ing are just a little clinical and cold for just kicking back and chilling with. Trouble is I'm used to listening to my music through a (very) expensive hi-fi so I'm very fussy when it comes to the sound.
I looked at a number of options , Denon, Senheisser, Beats and then stumbled across these at HMV. Thought I'd try them but to be honest thought the Marley name would be a bit of a gimmick. How wrong could I be. The sound is nice and full, wonderfully detailed, a touch on the warm side I'd say but I think this is by design. As you'd expect from a name so associated with Reggae the bass is nice and deep but has punch to it also, no wallowing here and perhaps more surprising is the top end; very detailed and has a really nice sparkle to it that never becomes tiring.
All in all I think you'd be hard pushed to find a better sounding set of 'phones for the price. In fact I'd go as far as saying they sound better than anything I've heard up to £100-150. Just awesome...
Great value at £38 - Linky

Danny - you know we're all old Audi driving IT workers? They may sound amazing but they look stoopid.
Behringer always used to have a rep for ripping off ideas from higher brands and selling their own stuff cheaper, at least for mixers and the like back in the later 90's/early 00's.
I use to use my Sennheissers for DJing and have had the same pair since about '98. They've been all over the world with me and, apart from a bit of black tape and three changes of ear pad (one was purely to add velour to my ears) they are still in service. In fact, I'm currently listening to Paul Daley's more mellow stuff with them right now. They sound as good today as when I bought them.
Fanny Wangs - haven't a clue how they sound but i want some just for the name.
You'd like Suffolk then... Go there and visit Wangford. On the way back you could stop at Six Mile Bottom in Cambridgeshire.

Apologies - I hadn't noticed. They're not worth £545, I'm sure one of the cork sniffing audiophile types can find something better with added horn of unicorn at that price 😉
(I think I paid about £50 for mine)
