Not the rubbish type. Been given a £100 voucher for amazon and fancy some better binoculars. Got some old practica 10x25 that are a bit shit really. Just genearal use and thinking about 8x42. Brother has a pair of opticrons which seem good but was just wondering if theres owt better. Dont mind putting some money towards them but have a limit of about 150ish.
Cheers, Graham.

Got Nikon zooms, were about £100 but in a sale - bright, sharp imagees.
Also got an Opticron spotting scope - if bins are in that league you won't go wrong

Go to your local RSPB reserve and test the binoculars there.
It will give you a good idea of quality, weight etc

Good call on Opticrons, I've got some little Oasis 10x28's (£199 though)which are brilliant quality & small enough to go in a pocket. Japanese optics too.
Good quality stuff is Opticron.

Oh, oh, me! me!

I've just bought some Nikon Prostaff 8x42 and they are brilliant.

These:

I got them from Great Western Cameras, online for £149.99.

I believe Currys are doing them for £129.99 at the mo'.

TOP VALUE.

Last year we treated ourselves to some Celestron Granite ED 8*42 binoculars. Having done some internet research, I spent about an hour in the shop trying out different binoculars at the end of the day as the sun was going down - as mentioned above, this is when the quality shows, and while the Swarovski 10*32 were better, they were also £1600. We settled on the Celestrons as the best balance of quality for price. They've been brilliant but they're about double your budget.

I recently picked up some secondhand Opticron Countryman 8*42 (£10 from the local charity shop, original around £130). They're really really good - not as good as the celestrons, but still great.

EDIT - Mr Starship, did you sort out the issues with alignment you were asking about? Was it dodgy binoculars or dodgy eyes?

Thanks for the replies. It has to be amazon due to a voucher. I'll have a look in the local camera shop who have a decent range of binoculars but don't want to waste their time as I won't be buying them there. Just want to check out the physical sizes. Im leaning towards the opticron discovery 8x42 for £165. Can always send them back if their unsuitable.
Thanks again, Graham.

Try before you buy if you can
Your eyes are unique to you so only you can decide if the lenses are any good. Also the weight of 8x42 can vary from okay to blumming heavy.

CameraPriceBuster website also monitors the price of optical equipment
You can track the prices there and many of the best deals are Amazon
