Picking up a used PS4 tonight.

I like interesting games with good stories, and/or open world style games. But I also like a good bit of fun e.g. Tricky Towers etc.

She likes RPGs but without complex battle systems - Skyrim was a hit but only with the difficulty turned all the way down. I thought Child of Light would go down well but she didn't get the combat system. I liked it mind.

I found RDR 1 a bit dull. Seemed to spend loads of time galloping across prarie which it turns out is nowhere near as much fun as tearing around a city in a sportscar. But I might try 2.

We like games we can watch each other play, it's a bit more social, and RDR1/2 do fall into that category.

Witch hunter, one of the best games ever.

Gta for some mindless violence.

I just can't get into rdr2

Destiny 1 or 2 is a simple rpg shoot em up

I know it doesn't meet your brief. But Rez...

Still one of my favourite games after buying it originally on the PS2.

I've lost hours replaying it over the years and the new level is brilliant, tempting to buy vr for it...

RDR2 was perfectly realised tedium.
Horizon Zero Dawn is good, Days Gone is buggy but good, The Last of Us is on rails but good and Witcher 3 is amazing.

If you get project cars (2), a steering wheel is a must, same with Assetto Corsa, however if you’re using a pad, Gran Turismo Sport is very playable, and the VR is ace. Dirt rally for you off-road fix

VR is great in Ace combat too!

Left field choice: mud runner. All the nerdy bits of off-road driving.

I have Last of Us for PS3, didn't play it. Should have done I suppose.

GTAV I completed on PS3, trying to decide if it's worth buying it again for better graphics and online play. I'm too old for online play and don't have enough mates.

Always seem to be surrounded by kids who don't talk, presumably because I don't speak their language I dunno. Never seems fulfilling with people I don't know.

I like all the Uncharted games. They're not the hardest, or the best looking, or the longest, and they run on rails ...

... but I reckon they're the most fun: easy to pick up and play, good storylines, a nice variation of play (driving, shooting, sneaking, fist fighting, climbing/jumping, puzzles), and excellent set-pieces.
I think you can still get a pack of the first 3 really cheap, and they still play nicely. 4 was just as much fun as the originals, and there's at least one spin off.

I might go and play them all again.

Gta for some mindless violence.

GTAV online? Yes you can do that. And you can also

Play the story mode

And online:

Play car sumo

Get to a high point (Construction site is good) with a team
of friends and hold off the police.

Hold off the police at Mount Chiliad

Steal a Jet from the military base

Drive/ride over mount or other state park in a car, bmx, mx bike, 4x4, quad, mtb, road bike, Faggio moped, golfcart etc

Take a Marquis sailing boat along the coast and go swimming with a friend. GTA5 looks great underwater and it will level-up your lung capacity. You can also use rebreathers for longer scuba-diving trips! Or use a cargobob to fly a Submersible around the map and take that out to sea. Using the Submersible will equip your character with Scuba equipment too

Compete online to come global Tron-a-like champion in ‘Deadline’, or play your friends on regular rainy nights.

Flying non-combat aircraft casually

Parachuting missions/free-roam solo and in First Person

Off-road solo racing down mountain trails in First Person

Abduct player-owned cars when the owner goes inside a store, using a Cargobob to put the car out of reach.

Trolling jinks using the Up n Atomiser

Across the map police chase - How long can you last at 5 stars? Tip: Use a muscle car for Vanishing Point

Design and build your own games within GTA online

Find bigfoot

Solve the Mt Chiliad Puzzle

Run a succession of businesses, imports/exports drugs, weapons, cars etc

Dogfighting in various aircaft

Racing in hundreds of online events

Carkour

Pilot a helicopter

Practice parachuting and freefall

Find your way to the secret naked cult in the hills and steal their shit without getting wrecked

Play golf

Play tennis

Run a motorcycle club

Wildlife spotting. Try and photograph every animal/bird in the game

Visit the Casino and get rich or wrecked

Build a mobile operations centre and workshop

Customise your bunker

Buy the Back To The Future car and run a taxi service.

Bounty-hunting

Survive a bounty on yr head

Find the easter eggs

Win all of the 57 random in game events

Complete the Heist mission

buy 1980s cars, customise to the Max, bodykit etc and go drift racing at night around the city.

Become an expert sniper

Buy a shack in the desert and pretend to be Trevor in everything you do.

Or other stuff...your imagination really is the main limiting factor.

It will rob your sleep if you let it, and tbh it did mine while recovering from injury and couldn't ride. But I did get really good at Deadline 😎. It’s horribly addictive with decent headphones, the in-game music turned off and you’re up against a diehard who knows all the moves.

ha. you still get to commit mass murder of baddies. but just letting people go when you have interrogated them or not robbing folk who you just rescued from bandits etc, seeiing if it pans out any different....

amazing how much faster you progress the 2nd time when you have no need to just explore all the time!

There is supposedly different story outcomes depending on you decisions and standing but shooting people in the back of the head because they beat you in a competition is too tempting.

My partner keeps going back to LA Noire keeping on the rockstar theme. Tomb raider are popular to. Mirrors edge and portal going back a few years.

I'm more of a casual gamer so prefer Worms or little big planet type games.

God of War - Only game I've ever got the platinum for
Spiderman
Horizon Zero Dawn

All build up the combat complexity quite nicely adding new moves as you earn them/upgrade.

I'm currently battling my way through Sekiro - Shadows die twice. Not a game I'd recommend for someone who doesn't get on with complex combat mechanics. It's not particularly complicated, just HARD!

Thread hijack alert....

Can anyone recommend a good racing game that I can play splitscreen with my son?
In the same room, while able to talk to each other!
Just read that project Cars is online only multiplayer.

If you get project cars (2), a steering wheel is a must

Is it actually usable with a wheel then? Pre-wheel I sold PC2 after a Caterham race in the torrential rain with standing water. It was near impossible to drive but the opposition (off line) was still able to charge on

Night and day different with a wheel. Because the throw of the pedals and wheel is huge compared to pads, you aren’t on/off the brakes/throttle, and have much more control over the steering. Same with assetto corsa.

Think how easy your car would be to control if the pedals only moved an inch from fully off to fully on, and lock to lock of the steering was a 2 inch flick of a tiny joystick...

Grand, I just wasn't sure as not all games have the same gulf of difference, might get hold of another copy then at some point (currently busy on F1 2019 anyway)

It’s used so open it up and get all that dust away from the parts.

F1 2019

Any good? As much as I like F1, I’m always put off F1 games as it’s essentially the same car with different colours, just on different tracks?

Yeah I'm enjoying it so far, only playing solo career at the moment and it's the first time I've had an F1 game in years so it's a nice change. Mind was blown last night when I realised I could just talk to use the Pit-Car radio!

Plenty of stuff going on to make the driving different. Need to manage tyres, fuel and ERS these days (plus remember your DRS of course) - basically all the things that make real F1 a bit crap 🙂

straight off was going say Dirt Rally but then found doesn't support split-screen. Shame because otherwise it’s amazingly realistic and challenging. IMO possibly a little too much of both if had to criticise. But it is immersive.

The only race game I’ve played with local split-screen is Wipeout. Also v good but in a totally different arcade-y way - and has power-ups to keep it unpredictable. Think it’s free ATM with PS Plus

Mmm, thanks. I think I'm just pining for the proper Gran Turismo games from PS2/PS3 era before everything went online.
What I really want is an Xbox with Forza but it's a bit of an extravagance for one game!
