MegaSack DRAW - This year's winner is user - rgwb
We will be in touch
With CA licence just expired, I am looking for a good, reliable and cheap or free virus checker. I have 3 PC's to cover. Any pearls of wisdom much appreciated.
Thanks
AVG free
avast
AVG free slows down machines and is only about 50% effective.
KASPERSKY, WITHOUT A DOUBT!!! (yes, I'm shouting)
Free with Virgin broadband now.
i need a program that gets rid of viruemonde virus. tried a few and still got the ****er 🙁
Another Avast vote.
AVG free is, as the name suggests, free - but it's not the best out there. It'll do the job though as long as you're sensible about suspect e-mails and you don't surf dodgy websites..... I'm using it at the moment until Virgin release a Win7 version of their PC Guard software 🙁
jedi, you need to read the following
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic3494.html
mudglutten, i use avast but you could use
http://www.microsoft.com/Security_Essentials/
depending on your o/s
i also use
http://www.superantispyware.com/
& this has been ok
http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php
& this has been ok
http://www.sandboxie.com/
& all free 😀
Microsoft Security Essentials. Seems to work really well and consumes almost no resources in the process.
rangerroy, i tried and says i dont have admin rights or something
jedi, what O/s are you using vista??
yes
>Microsoft Security Essentials. Seems to work really well and consumes almost no resources in the process.
Just uninstalled Avast and trying MS SE. Cheers!
Jedi you need to sort the admin rights out
I use xp so i'm not to hot on vista
this should help
http://www.computerperformance.co.uk/vista/user_account_control.htm
i am set up as admin so i dont understand 🙁 i am shit at puters!
so am I
but read the article & you may learn something
i got tons of runtime errors when running symantec thingy..... :0
try the malwarebytes i would not trust symantec anyway itwill find result but you may have to pay for software to remove it,if malwarebytes does not find & destroy it looks like hijackthis & killbox are the way to go 😀
i hope i dont end up deleting all my diary again
have faith.
ps you may need to turn off your system restore when doing a scan otherwise the malware will be restored when you reboot because system restore folders are protected when turned on & the malware will laugh at you in a hidden/protected folder, just remember to turn back on afterwards 😆
Thanks all!
sorry for hijack
I would reccomend Bullguard.. pretty web active and diverse and havent picked anything up since i have been using it (3 years)
Avira free edition + regular scan with malwarebytes + Windows firewall + one monthly run of ccleaner.
All free, all great and none of them are system hogs.
Yep, just started using Avira cos citrix client wouldn't work through AVG. Have used Avast for years and years and years and think it's great - but the updates practically bring the PC to a shuddering halt.
