Does anyone know of a website or good way to interrogate Zoopla/Rightmove so that I could search by property details as opposed to geography.
For example, I want to look outside London, but I'm ambivalent for all sorts of reasons about exactly where at this moment. What I want to see is what my money would buy me in different places, ideally without doing a million different searches...
So, could I run a search for a 4 bed house, garage and X-cost and see the options generated to get a feel for further explorations?

I think you can sort of do that on zoopla by setting the location as England and then tweaking the other parameters
