broked my "meant to be ruggedized" Olympus (a fall onto concrete from 1.5m was too harsh a test for it) so want a semi decent point and shooter, I'm a crap photographer so something too good is a waste of money, kind of bewildered by the choice atm - prolly going to buy from John Lewis or Amazon.
Not really sure what features I need/want other than good clear pictures (my original Fuji 3ish mp camera took much better pictures than my 7ishmp Olympus) and low lag - have the solved lag issues with digital cameras yet?
Cheers peeps
Do you ever print them off or do they end up going on photo hosting websites/Facebook/email etc? If the latter, have a think about how easy it is to get pics off the camera and onto wherever you want to view them. The reason I say this is that I have an iPhone 4. The fact I can email/upload pics directly from the phone means that I'm sharing my pics with friends and family much more easily (which for me is the whole point).
With my digital camera I had to turn on the PC, plug in the memory card and copy them across before I could do something with them. Not the end of the world, but history shows many many pics I've done very little with. On the other side of this argument, I've missed good photo opportunities by not having my camera with me, whereas the phone goes most places with me.
Not saying an iPhone is the answer since it isn't great for action shots for example, but something else to think about if convenience is the priority.
Take a look at Lumix
Canon Ixus range are very good.
I'm prepared to get flamed for this, but I'd look for a used panasonic LX3 or a Fuji f50.
The lens on these are so much better than cheaper cameras that you will end up taking better pictures pretty much by accident.
only drawback of the f50 is that it needs xD memory cards.
I've ended up ditching all my good cameras cos I can't be arsed with fiddling with stuff any more. I sold my Nikon D300, grip, lens, flash, Just sold my LX3 and bought a Canon SX230 to replace the lot. Boss little camera for my needs with built in GPS!
Really enjoyed using it compared to the D300m LX3 and G1 cameras (G1 not sold yet)
At £250 rrp (I got mine duty free for £200) its dear but as I had a few hundred quid from selling other cameras it seemed fine to me. Great reviews on line and in a recent mag article testand highly recommended my me.
massive soon 28-390, image stabilizing lens, quick zoom and decent focus speed, and no shutter lag, or none that would annoy you.
