Recommend me a place to stay in Barcelona

Off to Barcelona in May with my young son hoping to see Barca play basketball.

Any recos for a cheap hostel/hotel that's pretty central?

Also, beyond seeing the basketball (football with have finished as we're going end May), any recommendations of stuff to do that'll be good for a 14 yo - Nou Camp tour, the beach, basketball, flamenco evening?
