I was starting to put all the photos last night (Mrs G, kids etc) from the phones etc onto our laptop and it had a severe hissy fit. It is 4 years old and has been getting worse over the past few months. I have a lot of photos on there too.

For obvious reasons, i don't want to lose any photos. I need a new laptop. Don't know yet how finances will be or how much the funeral will end up costing. But the photos, now more than ever are extremely precious to myself and the kids.

I will be backing them up onto an external hard drive or discs (or both) so need the capability to do this. Also, the ability to do some light graphic design work on it would be useful, but not necessary, photoshop type stuff mainly.

Has anyone seen any good deals on laptops that don't cost the earth but are decent enough to do what i need it to do? Haven't set a budget as not a high priority purchase, but saving and backing up the photos is.

Thanks

First up set up a cloud backup for the pics and you can do that direct from the phones etc.

Do this as a priority.  Also, online storage is cheep / free / a good idea.

I need a new laptop.

Do you?  What's actually wrong with the old one?  I'd be happy to take a look at it for you, my laptop is twice that age and going fine.

Already done that on my phone. Main problem is the laptop and her phone. She forgot the password for the cloud backup on them one day so went through the process of changing it. I was out at the time. She never remembered to tell me the password and was never a problem. Until now.

I need to get the photos off the phone and get the photos from the laptop onto a hdd.

Can you recommend a decent cloud backup i could use temporarily to store everything? Might be the easiest and cheapest solution. I can then download them straight to a hdd.

Sorry cougar, wrote that before seeing your reply.

It is an asus 360 degree laptop with a touch screen. The screen flickers like mad sometimes but fine other times. When it flickers, it randomly opens windows, scrolls up and down, shuts things down etc.

And randomly it freezes, whether it is flickering or not. When this happens i can't do anything apart from take the battery out or wait until it loses all its charge.

Sometimes it loads with no icons at all, sometimes a blue screen and other times it's fine.

Few other things have happened too, but not recently. The cloud option does sound like it could solve a lot of problems, and give me access to them easily.

iCloud or Google Sync / Drive straight from the phone depending on device and volume of photos.

She never remembered to tell me the password and was never a problem. Until now.

Got access to the email account it's registered to?  "I forgot my password" recovery.

Android here, so Google Drive works fine for me fits on everything really.

After backing everything up cleaning out the fans and and cleaning up the OS would help

I can probably fix the rest, but the screen loopiness sounds like a physical fault.  Potentially a frayed cable given the nature of the device.  I don't know the hardware but that potentially could be challenging to repair.

Good call. Hadn't thought of that, my mind is all over the place. Will do that.
